She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay J Anderson, the love of her Betty Anderson life, as well as her brother Lyle Price. She is survived by two brothers: Ned Price and Roger Price; six children, Sandra Tyndall, Dana Gamble, Betty Anderson, Stacy Anderson, Kimberly Tene, and David Anderson; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 greatgreat-grandchildren. Lorraine grew up in the village of Huntsville above Ogden Canyon. She graduated from Weber High School in 1947 with honors and moved to Ogden, Utah, where she worked a variety of jobs. After marrying Jay in 1959, they moved to Logan, Utah where she attended Utah State University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English. While there, she was invited to join the PHI KAPPA PHI National Honor Society whose motto is “Let the love of learning rule humanity.” She received her teaching certificate and substitute taught for many years. Later she went back to Weber State College to earn a Library Science certificate. She worked in the McKay/Dee Medical Library and later in the Weber State University Library where she also tutored adult students, many of whom spoke English as a second language. She and Jay bought a hayfield in Kanesville, Utah, now West Haven, and turned it into a farm and built a home in 1962 where they raised six children. They lived in that home for over fifty years. She was a member of the Kanesville Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints. In August of 2016, Jay and Lorraine moved to Sagewood Assisted Living Facility in South Jordan, Utah where she remained until she passed. Teaching was her life’s desire and she ful- filled it with Girl Scouts, 4-H, Sunday school, Library Story Time, substitute teaching, and tutoring. Her love of reading and books was made complete by working as a librarian in church, medical, and college libraries. Most of all, Lorraine was a wife, mother, grandmother and the center of a large active family. Everyone in the family knew that if problems became overwhelming, help or counsel from Jay and Lorraine was only a call away. We are grateful for her life, and will miss her for the rest of ours. The family requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels in lieu of flowers. A viewing was held Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th St. in Ogden, Utah. Carole Kay Wood Wangsgard November 27, 1938 ~ February 12, 2021 On Abraham Lincoln’s 212th birthday, Friday, February 12, 2021, our Carole Wangsgard beloved and beautiful Carole Kay Wood Wangsgard, after graciously enduring years of being confined to a chair by paralysis on her left side, walked into the eternities, finally free of physical restrictions, pain, and handicaps. We will miss her more than is possible to express. She was born in Ogden, Utah at the old Dee Hospital November 27, 1938, the first child of her proud parents Sterling Ben Wood and Ruth Collard Wood, long-time Huntsville, Utah residents. Her father’s grandfather Charles Wood helped settle this community after arriving in Ogden Valley with the original group of pioneers headed by Jefferson Hunt and Charles’ youngest son, her grandfather, Ben, who established Ben’s Market in the early teens, which continued operating into the late 1970’s. When Carole was nine years old she contracted a serious childhood illness for which there was no cure—rheumatic fever. Most children who got rheumatic fever died from it, but Carole, although struggling to live, with her mother’s constant bedside care, miraculously recovered; however, her heart was permanently damaged by this lethal bacteria and doctors told her parents not to expect her to make it past her twenties. She was never allowed to participate in any athletic activities or do any strenuous work—no gym class, no dancing, no softball; instead, she became an avid reader and remained so to her death. She even started a book club several years ago with the women in her neighborhood (and beyond), which met twice a month and, until a few years ago, remained an active organization. Her parents left Huntsville for a time and moved to Salt Lake City where Carole attended Olympus High School, graduating from there in 1957. She then attended college at Dixie in St. George and, after that, began school at the University of Utah, majoring in Literature and History. But when her father built a home in Huntsville for the family, she moved back to be with them. She married Kent Wangsgard January 12, 1963, who also comes from an old Huntsville family. She had been working at one of the few original fast-food places in the Valley, the Ski Inn, which was over on the highway across from the Old Snow Basin Road when Kent’s grandfather Louis Wangsgard told Kent, who was helping fix fences on some of their nearby farm property, that he wanted to take him to lunch at the new restaurant on the highway. Louis knew full-well Carole was working there, a strikingly beautiful girl with long black hair, and after their first meeting, Kent was smitten. Needless to say, they went there for lunch on a regular basis following that first encounter. Carole and Kent have since celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. After their marriage, Kent, having completed the ROTC program at Utah State, joined the Army with the commission of a lieuten- ant. He was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and Carole became an army wife. They lived at different forts around the country and it was during this time that their first child was born, a baby boy with big blue eyes who they named Benjamin Robert (Robert being Kent’s father’s first name). After five years in the army, Kent wanted to return to civilian life and the couple came back to Ogden where Carole completed her BA degree at the University of Utah. They adopted their second child at this time—being warned that another pregnancy would be far too dangerous for Carole—a darling infant girl, Karlyn Kay, who completed their family. Carole’s life has been truly amazing. She loves to travel and has been all over the world, in spite of doctor’s orders advising her against it. She even defied the high altitudes of Tibet on one of her adventures to see the Himalayas firsthand. She has pulled through four open heart surgeries, one near fatal brain surgery, and countless tests and medical procedures in her lifetime without any complaint or self-pity. (Kent remembers at least eight separate times that he was told she would not make it through the night.) Her brain tumor and the surgery to remove it rendered her paralyzed on her left side, but she continued to do a lot of her own cleaning, cooking (she is an excellent cook), and even drove a car for several years in spite of that immobilizing disability. She has three sisters: Suzie (Max), Becky, Willow (Alan), and sister-in-law Ruth (Kirk) who all adore her. Her little brother Brett adores her, too, preceding her to heaven in 1994. She also has three devoted sisters-in-law: Lynn (Dick) Sadler, Jo (Al) Crane, and Ruth (Art) Nielsen. Aunt Betty Collard Glad of Salt Lake and many Collard, Wood, Wangsgard cousins are all very special relatives who survive her. Ben and his wife Laura Holloway now have two daughters, Samantha and Alyssa, who also adore her. Karlyn and her husband Stephen Mosier together have six children: Morgan, Mistie, Sarah, Amanda, Samantha, and Eli and five great grandchildren who all adore her and lovingly call her “Grandma.” Carole has several nieces and nephews she is very close to, one of them calling her My Bear Lake Grandma when she was little because she enjoyed the great fun of going to the Kent/Carole condo in Bear Lake. She also has many lifelong friends we would love to name but can’t risk leaving someone out, but hope you know who you are and how much Carole loved and appreciated her association with you. We thank God every day for Carole, our queenly, courageous wife, mother, sister, friend who fought so hard and for so long to far outlive those dark predictions from her childhood. She blessed our lives every day with her noble presence and we are so grateful that time and time again she proved the experts wrong. We love and admire her so much. Memorial services were held Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the Ogden Lindquist Mortuary located at 3408 Washington Blvd. Ogden, Utah. Carole was buried in the Huntsville Cemetery. The family wishes to thank everyone for their support.
