Show Volume XXVII Issue I The Ogden Valley news Page 3 May 15, 2020 ---- Huntsville Town Public Notice ---- NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING OF THE HUNTSVILLE The Town Council of Huntsville would like everyone to know that we are planning on holding the town’s 4th of July events on the regularly-scheduled date. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will be meeting as a council around June 1 to discuss possible planned restrictions. Please watch for an article in The Ogden Valley news, and refer to our Huntsville.com website for additional information as we move forward. Thank you to all for your patience! Community Foundation Gears Up for Annual Giving Period The Community Foundation of Ogden Valley (CFOV) is a volunteer organization made up of Ogden Valley residents who work together, dedicating time, energy, and collaboration to keep our community amazing! They raise funds and awareness for many nonprofit groups throughout our valley by working hand-in-hand with representatives from the different nonprofit organizations (NPOs) serving Ogden Valley. The Foundation also reaches out to community members interested in philanthropic opportunities within the community, explaining how to successfully leverage their donations to benefit charities supporting Huntsville, Eden, and Liberty. If you love Ogden Valley—whether you live here or play here—this is your opportunity to give here! The foundation is organizing and gearing up for this year’s Annual Giving Period—a fundraising period from May 1 to September 30. During this five-month drive, designated valley NPO’s are encouraged to raise tax-deductible funds that CFOV will then match—up to $5,000. Last year CFOV matched 80% of each NPO’s collected donations. Continuing this year, the CFOV Board will allow nonprofit organizations to raise funds all year that qualify for matching funds. This allows the organizations that function mostly in the winter, such as school PTOs, the winter sport activity organizations, etc. to reach out to their supporters at the most relevant time. The members of the Community Foundation have been ZOOM-meeting to begin their plans for 2020 and to determine how the CFOV can best serve the community in this unprecedented year of social distancing while battling COVID19. Although their hope is to continue to raise funds and awareness for philanthropic efforts in Ogden Valley, the board is evaluating how they can best support the organization’s MISSION: “To improve the lives of Ogden Valley residents and visitors through philanthropic leadership and community service.” “This year, we hope to be able to have our fun, annual events that we have had in the past such as our Summer Scramble or Helicopter Ball Drop, but we realize that we may need to shift our focus to community service and helping support our valley in other ways,” explained Melissa Lewis, co-chair of the 2020 CFOV Board. The Community Foundation of Ogden Valley relies on different types of philanthropy to be able to support the 17 nonprofit organizations (NPO’s) they sponsor. There are several business sponsors in our Valley who donate money that is traditionally used for supporting the events and prizes that the CFOV uses to develop and encourage philanthropy. A main portion of donations come from annual Match Donors who donate funds directly to the CFOV to be used to disperse to the 17 NPOs. There are several ways to donate to CFOV and the NPOs you’re interested in supporting. You can: Donate directly to individual NPOs listed on our website (cfovoverdrive.org). Become a Match Donor, contributing to the Match Fund where monies benefit all NPOs. If interested in doing so, please contact Kim Best at 801-675-1723. Become a sponsor for CFOV fundraising events so monies raised at events can benefit NPOs directly instead of covering event costs such as prizes, food or advertising. If you would like to become a sponsor, please contact Brian Nielsen at 805-452-2442. Participate in upcoming events that will be determined as the understanding of the COVID-19 crisis proceeds. Volunteer to spread the word and share the CFOV’s mission and efforts with neighbors and friends who LIVE HERE, PLAY HERE, GIVE HERE.
