Public Meetings Planned by Nordic Valley Developers: Public comments taken Aug. 13 & 14 Two important public meetings have been slated by the new partners of Nordic Valley— Mountain Capital Partners. The meetings are slated for August 13 and August 14. The meetings are planned to take public comment, which is required before developers can make formal application to the U.S. Forest Service for expansion onto Forest Service property for both a proposed gondola to traverse the North Ogden Divide and added skiable terrain at higher elevations on government properties. The August 13 meeting will be held at the Eccles Convention Center, 2415 Washington Blvd. in Ogden; the second, on August 14, at the newly-constructed and opened North Ogden Branch library, 475 E. 2600 N, in North Ogden. Both meetings will begin at 6.:00 p.m. Interested community members are encouraged to attend and provide public comment, which will then qualify them to make and receive future input into the decision-making process during the NEPA process. A click on the website address https:// nordicvalleyproject.com/ brings viewers to the news that, with the addition of some new owners on board, plans are in the works to increase and expand the size and scope of the sleepy valley resort positioned at the west side of once-pastoral Ogden Valley. The website boldly makes a number of claims—that the resort will expand from 140 acres to over 2,800—“focusing on sustainability and environmental stewardship.” The narra- NORDIC VALLEY cont. on page 12 Photo by Che Zuro of Eden. Wolf Creek Water and Sewer Improvement District Update It’s a really dry year due to a couple of important components—last winter’s low snowpack, which amounted to only 51% of normal on Ben Lomond Peak; and the below-normal summer rain, or, rather, lack of it. The National Weather Service reports there has been only 0.5 inch of rain since May, instead of a couple of inches, so that the Northern Mountains are at only 63% of normal for the year. As a result, the flows coming into the Wolf Creek District irrigation system are much lower than normal. Chair of the Board of Trustees Miranda Menzies stated, “This has put us into a situa- tion where we simply don’t have the normal amount of water to distribute. We have some stored water, but it’s limited. We need everyone to help us get through this together, and use less water than normal—staying within the base monthly amount per home of 20,000 gallons.” Equivalent restrictions are applied to all condominium complexes and HOAs. “If we all work together, we can all take care of trees, shrubs and perennials.
