Letters to the Editor Representative Waldrip Thanks Community for Their Vote Dear District 8 Republican voters, I am humbled and grateful for the outpouring of support for my campaign and candidacy. Thank you Kimberly Stevens and Jason Kyle for a well-fought race. Constituents, thank you for exercising your right to vote, and for choosing me to be the Republican Party nominee for House District 8. We have shared values that far outweigh any differences we may have. My message focuses on these shared core values. We love our children, and we want them to have the best education possible. We love our country, and want it to be strong and vibrant and to be an example to the world. We share a love of God and family, and a reverence for our Constitution and Bill of Rights. We love our servicemen and women, we want them to represent all that is good and true in our country as they serve around the world. We love our wilderness and natural spaces, we want to preserve and protect them for future generations. We care for the poor and for those in need among us. I will use these guiding values and principles to represent all of us in the Utah Legislature. I am currently serving on the Ogden Valley Planning Commission, Ogden Valley Land Trust Board, United Way of Northern Utah Board, and Pineview Advisory Committee. I have worked for years to ensure that our Ogden Valley Parks will be strong and vibrant for our children and our grandchildren. I have a JD and a Master’s degree in Taxation Law. I helped bring 4000 jobs and $500 million in private investment into Ogden at BDO, and negotiated $500 million in lease transactions. I am fortunate to be able to dedicate this portion of my life to public service. My background and experience as tax attorney and businessman, combined with my service in our community, will be an asset as I serve as your representative. Thank you again for your vote. Steve Waldrip, Eden Some People Actually Eat Carp, and Some Keep Control of Their Dogs on Public Lands In response to Becky Wood’s letter to the editor in the July 1 issue of the paper, I need to ask, has anyone ever tried to shoot a carp in Pineview Reservoir with archery equipment? It’s fun as hell! All you need to do is go to DWR and get legal, and you can do it all day long! It helps the Division of Wildlife Resources manage trash fish and creates a good sport! If we all would help the state manage unwanted carp from taking over our valley, and have fun doing the task, I think it would be awesome! We just throw out the carp on the beach and let the varmints like skunks, fox, raccoons, eagles, hawks, turkey vultures, and robins have a feast from our efforts. That helps keep all the predators out of our chickens, and out of our cat and dog food. And when these predators get out of hand, some of us find value in trapping this menace for another way to enjoy sport. Wait a minute; one thing is wrong! Somebody wants to let their dog run free in the natural habitat? Then they want to complain about it! Someone wants to change things up so they don’t have to smell an offensive order. Who could that be? The people who pay to use their boats on the dam haven’t said anything! There is plenty of places to ride a horse or walk a dog on leash in the valley where there is no hunting going on! Go up to North Fork or maybe Middle Fork where most ducks stay away! The Skyline Trail is another good place to go to avoid ducks and carp. Some people actually eat carp and some people take control of their dogs so they stay out of trouble! A dog on public ground that is not under control is the owner’s responsibility! Some people just would be happier living and playing in town . . . maybe even in Russia. John Montgomery, Liberty |
