Show Volume XXV Issue IX The Ogden Valley news Page 7 July 1, 2018 Announcements Obituaries Christina Marie Keenan January 16, 2003 ~ June 17, 2018 Christina Keenan, age 15, unexpectedly passed from this life to eternity Sunday, June 17, 2018 at her home in Huntsville, Utah. She was born January Christina Keenan 16, 2003. She was a joy and gift from God to all who knew and loved her. Christina was more than kind and caring to everyone in her life. She was a freshman at Saint Joseph Catholic High School and truly loved her friends and teachers. She loved going to church at Saint Florence and the Ogden Valley Community Church and visiting The Holy Trinity Monastery where she was especially close to Brother Nicholas, Father Patrick, and Father Joseph. Christina loved hearing the monastery bells ring every day. She loved all her animals, skiing, ice skating, horseback riding, tennis and ballet. Christina loved being a member of the Saint Joseph Catholic School theater program and the tennis and swim teams. Don Woodfield McEntire November 15, 1929 ~ June 18, 2018 Don Woodfield McEntire, 88 of West Point, Utah, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, June 18, 2018 of pancreatic cancer. Don McEntire He was born November 15, 1929 in the Dee Hospital in Ogden to William Rawson McEntire Sr. and Rosene Maria Woodfield. He was the youngest of six children and grew up in Huntsville, where he spent many happy hours fishing and hunting in the rivers and mountains near his home with his dog, Fritz, who was his constant companion. He was on the ski patrol of Snow Basin. He graduated from Weber High School and served an LDS mission in the Netherlands. He was sealed to LaRae Porter on November 26, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by President David O. McKay, who was a family friend. He served his country in Germany during the Korean conflict where he and LaRae lived for 18 months. He and his family also lived in Ogden, Roy, Clearfield and West Point. Don worked at H.A.F.B and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1992 after having worked at the Ogden and Layton Post Office as a postal clerk. He always had a part-time job having worked several years for Lindquist Mortuaries. He worked hard but made a special effort to take his family on a yearly vacation. He and his beloved companion served two fulltime missions to the Netherlands from 1993-1994 and from 2000-2001. He has served in many capacities in the LDS Church including: Stake High Councilor, Bishop’s Councilor, Gospel Doctrine teacher for several years and as Scoutmaster. He was an ordinance worker in the Ogden LDS Temple for over 14 years. Don was a gifted teacher and many loved to listen to his lessons because he incorporated stories. He had a gift for storytelling. She worked many Saturdays at the Valley Veterinary Clinic with Dr. Etta Baker. Christina loved helping and caring for all the animals that came in for treatment. She loved working closely with Dr. Baker and Cortney, giving the best care possible to all patients needing care. Christina only lived 15 short years, but gave tremendous love to her Mama and other loved ones around her. She provided her family and friends several lifetimes’ worth of great memories. Because the Lord was Christina’s Shepherd, she shall not want, both now and for eternity. Christina was preceded in death by her grandfather Richard Keenan and grandmother Joan Keenan. Unfortunately, Christina’s father, Rodney George Marriot, abandoned her when she was 13 years old. It crushed her heart and soul because she loved and adored him so much. Christina is survived by her Mama, Kelly Keenan; her father, Rodney George Marriot; and very close friends David Knowlton, Dr. Etta Baker, Cortney Draper, and “Uncle” Earl. Funeral services were held Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 514 24th St., Ogden, Utah. Send condolences to the family at <www. lindquistmortuary.com> He always kept a beautiful, bountiful garden and he shared his produce with neighbors and friends. Watching sports on TV was a treasured pastime, but his favorite program was Jeopardy and he could answer most of the questions. He loved nature and could recognize any bird by its song, name all trees and flowers and could spot a pheasant in a field from a mile away. He spent many hours baking breads and pies and sharing them with his family and neighbors. Don is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, LaRae; children: James Guy, Roy; Gwen Fellows (Ray), Clinton; Dodie Webb (Blake), Murray; Kellie Cooke (Kerry), Hooper; Patti Rae Stanger, Syracuse; 21 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren with two on the way. Don was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: Virginia (Judy) Stallings, Ross, Laura Hawkes, Helen Slater, and Jay. Oh, by the way, he got his tomatoes planted. The McEntire family would like to give a special thanks to Nurse Stephanie and to Community Nursing Services. Funeral Services were held Monday, June 25, 2018 at the West Point 13th Ward Chapel, 3290 W. 800 N., West Point. Interment was in the Huntsville Cemetery where military honors were accorded. Mary Louise Griswold VanScoyk March 29, 1943 ~ June 21, 2018 Mary Louise Griswold VanScoyk, 75, entered upon her Mary VanScoyk new life June 21, 2018 after a long, difficult illness. Born March 29, 1943, she was raised in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. After marriage to her husband of 47 years, Robert E. VanScoyk, at his duty station in the Seychelles Islands, she made her home in Eden, Utah. Mary Louise was the youngest of Leonard and Betsey Griswold’s seven children. Brothers Howard and Raymond, and sisters Margaret and Helen predeceased her. She is survived by her husband, Rob; her daughters Megan VanScoyk of New Mexico and Robyn Kondo of California; sisters Ruth Peters of Minnesota and Leona Dunham of Connecticut; a large family of Griswold cousins; many nieces and nephews to whom “Aunt Mary” was special; and her life-long, best Ronald Lloyd Wooden April 24, 1939 ~ June 6, 2018 With sadness, we announce the passing of Ronald L. Wooden on June 6, 2018. Ron was born in Rock Springs, Ronald Wooden Wyoming to Henry and Lavonna Wooden. He grew up in Star Valley, Wyoming, graduating from Star Valley High School. Ron went on to receive his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Music Education from Utah State University where he met Kay Gaddie. They were married September 30, 1960 in Logan, Utah. Ron went on to receive his Ph.D. from the University of Utah. Ron taught music at Cedar City High School and Ogden High School before joining the faculty of Weber State College. While at Weber State, Ron was director of the Opera/ Theater program and directed over thirty musicals. He directed the Weber State Chorale and the vocal jazz ensemble, correlation. He took his choirs on tours throughout Europe and the United Kingdom and performed at numerous American Choral Director Association conventions. Ron also served as Chair of the Music and Performing Arts departments, and served on and headed many other program and planning committees. In addition to all his contributions to Weber State, Ron was also active in the sup- friend Linda Forino of Enfield. Connecticut. A Rocky Hill High School graduate, Mary worked for Connecticut Bank and Trust Co. Upon moving to Utah, she was employed by Williams International. Mary was a longtime and devoted member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Ogden, Utah. She and Rob shared an enthusiasm for out-of-doors activities and a very favorite camp site in St. George. She was devoted to her families, her church, and others. Her bright smile, welcoming voice, positive outlook and uplook, and big heart will be fondly remembered. In Connecticut, arrangements for remembering and celebrating her life, and new life, as well as internment in Center Cemetery in Rocky Hill, are incomplete at this time. Mary Louise’s family extends to her medical “angels” and teams, a deep appreciation for the friendship, many kindnesses, and faithful care given while accompanying them and her on their long journey. He also served as a member for the Utah Arts Council, the Ogden Arts Commission, and the Ogden Downtown Egyptian Theater/Conference Center Steering and Technical Committee. He served as a consultant on the reconstruction of the Val Browning Center for the Performing Arts. In addition, he organized and managed state and regional music clinics, all-state festivals and regional conferences for Utah Music Educators Association and the American Choral Directors Association. Ron was also active as a bass-baritone soloist and jazz saxophonist. Ron and his wife had a passion for boating and fishing and were members of the Ogden Pineview Yacht Club. They took their family on many memorable trips to Lake Powell, Flaming Gorge, Jackson Lake and Bear Lake. In the winter, they enjoyed cross-country skiing in the North Fork area of Ogden Valley. Ron is survived by his sons Michael (Theresa) and Bradley; his grandchildren: Dylan, Catharina, Brianna, Gregory, Annaka, and Elizabeth; and his brothers Mel, Ralph, and Brent. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Kay; and his brother, Donn. Funeral services were held Friday, June 15, 2018 at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th St., Ogden, Utah. Graveside service and reception followed.
