Obituaries Vaudis Barson Davis August 12, 1935 ~ May 24, 2017 I returned home to my Heavenly Father May 24, 2017 at the age of 81. As I stepped through the veil, I was welcomed by my husband Reid; parents H. John and Joanna Barson; sister Fae; son Jeff; daughter Joanna; and granddaughter Marissa, as well as numerous dear friends. I was born August 12, 1935 in Logan, Utah, the second of seven children. My mom was a nurse and my dad a farmer. I grew up in a happy home filled with music, love, and laughter. Our family sang together, with Daddy often accompanying us on his slide whistle or trombone. In high school, my sister Carol and I formed a trio with our friend Nannette, and called ourselves the Melody Maids. We performed with the Mormon Choir of Southern California and at private events. I graduated from Inglewood High School in 1953, and then attended Brigham Young University with the intention of following in Mama’s footsteps and becoming a nurse; however, during freshman orientation I met Reid Davis, who soon changed my mind about pursuing a career. We were married in the St. George LDS Temple June 10, 1955 and ulti- mately became the parents of eight children. As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I happily served to the best of my ability in many varied capacities. Two of my most joyful experiences were singing in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir with Reid and also serving a mission with him in Carlsbad, California. There were many things I wanted to be when I grew up, but immobile wasn’t one of them. As a young woman it was easier for me to run than to walk and I loved doing both. Then, with advancing years I could do neither. Well, now I’m again experiencing that freedom; nevertheless, the last few years in a wheelchair taught me there were things I could do, even then. I could still lend a listening ear; I could still lift and encourage. My love for others was never incapacitated. I’m leaving behind six beautiful children: Greg, Valerie (Dan Hancock), Melanie (Patrick Westerkamp), Kim (Matt Ulmer), Kari (Rodney Harrison), and Jon (Jeanette); fourteen incredible grandchildren and twelve amazing greatgrandchildren; beloved siblings Carol, Ken, Clyde, Fran and Duane. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Kaysville 9th Ward, 201 S. 600 E., Kaysville. Interment at the Huntsville Cemetery. She was born July 21, 1978 in Ogden, Utah, the fifth child of Ivan and Dena Carter Rich; and was raised in Milton, Morgan County, Utah. She graduated from Morgan High School, attended Southern Utah State College and Weber State University, earning both a Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Education. She taught at Roosevelt, Uintah and Valley Elementary Schools. She loved teaching and loved the children. She met and married the love of her life, Abe Wangsgard, of Huntsville, Utah, to whom she was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 29, 2005. Abe is her best friend. After a honeymoon in Yellowstone, Abe and Krista Don O. Carlsen October 25, 1926 ~ May, 31, 2017 Don O Carlsen, Ogden, Utah, passed away May, 31, 2017. Don was born October 25, 1926 in Ogden, Utah, the fourth of six sons, to Ole G. and Vivian Hutchinson Carlsen. Most of Don’s Don Carlsen early life was spent in Ogden. When he turned 18, he received his draft notice to serve in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Before he left, he completed all high school requirements and graduated from Ogden High School in 1945. His Navy career was spent on a troop ship, sailing between San Francisco, the Philippines and Japan. Following his military service, he attended Weber College. Soon after he returned from the War, Don met his future wife, Josie Bush, when she and some friends moved just around the corner. A few months, and several dance lessons later, Don convinced Josie to partner with him in church dance festivals. Not long after, they were married September 15, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He and Josie owned and operated Empire Printing and Carlsen Printing in Ogden. Don and Josie were blessed with a house-full of children: David born in 1950, Irene in 1953, Roger in 1955, Paul in 1959, and Janet in 1962. Don’s love of family, faith, and country were key throughout his life. He and Josie encouraged education and hard work for all of their children, each learning a strong work ethic in the family printing business. While Don was president of the Ogden Rotary Club, he and settled on a life of family and fun, always planning something new, always the life of the party. No family party ever started until Abe and Krista arrived. Abe and Krista are blessed with three children—Flint Abe, age 11; Claire Dena, age 8; and Hazel Krista, age 4. Abe and Krista have lived in Huntsville for the last six years, raising their children, riding their horses, showing the 4H pigs in the Weber County fair, camping, teaching Sunday School, fishing in the family fishing pond, and every other rural activity that can be imagined. Of all her hobbies, the one she cherished most was her family. She is survived by her husband, Abe; their three children: Flint, Claire, and Hazel; parents, Ivan and Dena Rich; siblings Clay Rich, Clint (Shannon) Rich, Blake (Shay) Rich; and her best friend and sister Collett (Shayne) Watkins; father and mother-in-law Kelly and Joan Wangsgard; uncle, Curt Wangsgard; aunt, Lynnda Wangsgard; and sister-in-law, April (Travis) Lopshire; as well as many nephews and nieces. Later, after serving an LDS mission in Lansing Michigan, Don and Josie continued their travel adventures to many of the states throughout the U.S. He remained active with various church callings, frequent temple work, and enjoyed being of service. Don built on his creative talents as a way of life. His visionary and inventive nature shined through from his early projects with printing innovations, to his interest in building an electric car, to learning carpentry. Don was always ready to make improvements on his home or to help neighbors, family and friends. His learning and adaptive spirit has been an ongoing inspiration. Don is preceded in death by Josie, his wife and partner of 63 years; his parents; and four brothers: Roy, Norman, Merrill and Vern. Surviving are his brother Jay (Jean) of Utah; children David (Fawn) of Georgia, Irene Hugie (John) of Montana, Roger (Cindy) of Arizona, Paul of Utah, and Janet Reid (Charles) of Montana; 15 grandchildren; and 21 greatgrandchildren.
