Show Page 6 The Ogden Valley news Volume XXIII Issue XVII October 1, 2016 Announcements Happy 80th Birthday Leon Fielding Earl Leon Fielding celebrated his 80th birthday with a family dinner at Maddox Ranch House. Leon was born September 14, 1936 in Ogden, Utah to Earl Fielding and Willena Madsen. He is the second oldest of two brothers, Reed and Clyde, and two sisters, Betty Lou and Mary. He was raised in Huntsville, where he developed a strong work ethic and love of the Ogden Valley. He attended Valley Elementary and Junior High, where he served as class president, and graduated from Weber High School. After graduation, he studied Logistics Management at Weber State College and Utah State University. During this time Leon worked for JG Read Bros. as saddle/ harness maker, Coca Cola Bottling Co., and was a parachute rigger for Hill Air Force Base. Leon was a horse trainer/ jockey and was involved in chariot and cutter racing in Utah, Leon Fielding Idaho, and Wyoming. Leon was drafted by the US Army and stationed at Fort Bragg North Carolina. He was assigned to the 3rd US Army Missile Command, Charlie Company of the 32nd Infantry Division. After being honorably discharged, Leon began his career at Defense Depot Ogden (DDOU). He was a Facilities Manager responsible for the assembly, modification and distribution of portable hospitals (DEPMEDS), used most notably during the Desert Storm Gulf War. He retired after 37 years of Federal Service. Leon is an active member of American Legion Post 129 and served as their Chaplain. He also served on planning committees for Weber County and Unincorporated East Huntsville. He is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Middle Fork Ward. Leon’s hobbies include raising sheep and livestock. He has also enjoyed boating, skiing, camping, traveling, bowling, and riding horses. Leon has been married to his loving wife, Dorothy, for 55 years and is a lifelong resident of Huntsville. He has two daughters, Shelby and Laina, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Jeri graduated from Weber High School in 1956 and briefly attended Weber College. She worked for Hewlett-Packard for 25+ years in Boise, Idaho and then in Corvallis, Oregon. She retired in 2000. Upon retirement Jeri stayed active and worked for the Parks and Recreation Department for Adair Village and was instrumental in forming the youth group there. Jeri was devoted to her Red Hats; she loved to go to the teas, funventions, and other activities that they had, and she will be missed by them. She loved to go to Belnap with her husband Harry. After his death, she still continued to go there with family and friends.
