Dad’s strong spiritual foundation started with his family in Minnesota where they worked and prayed together. His parents, Paul J. and Olivia, lovingly raised a blended family with six kids. During the Depression, his duties on the family farm caused sporadic school attendance, so he was 16 when he finished sixth grade at the local Catholic school. Dad said you should learn something new every day, which he endeavored to do. He loved to study theology, reading books about the Church Fathers, and business, reading the friends and traveling professionally in the U.S., Europe, and India. His friends remember his quick wit; his bright mind; his contagious smile; his passion for entertainment trivia; his love of film, music, and the arts; and what fun it was to be with him. He was a very talented, gentle and kind man. His two dogs were cherished companions. Jeffery was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served an honorable mission in Seoul, South Korea. He loved the Korean people, the language, and the culture. The family has been humbled by the support and constant prayers from family and all of his friends, many who traveled far out of their way to visit at the hospital, even for a few minutes. Condolences may be sent to the family at <www.myers-mortuary.com> Wall Street Journal. At the age of 76, Dad was very proud to earn his high school diploma. Dad enlisted at age 17 so he could join the war effort as soon as possible. Dad could regale us with amazing, and frightening, stories over a glass (or more) of scotch. Like many soldiers of the time, he did what he had to do. After experiencing Mindanao, and rising through the ranks, he was glad to be part of D-day, and return home. Mom and Dad spent 45 years in Kaysville, Utah, raising their four children. Dad was an Air Force civilian procurement specialist for the Missile Project at Hill Air Force Base. His life revolved around his family and friends, church and the Monastery in Huntsville. He loved gathering people in, always looking for a way to help them become closer to God. With his constant peaceful love, he embodied the first and second commandments: he loved God, and he loved his neighbor. In response, many people relied on Dad for a listening ear. He will be missed by many. Dad is survived his daughter Mary Bertelsen (Steve) of Meridian, Idaho; son Mike (Becky) of Layton, UT; daughter Margaret Durnen (Don) of Waterford, MI; and son Mark of Fruit Heights, UT. He also leaves eleven grandchildren, and six greatgrandchildren. The Idaho Cremation Society can be contacted for information.
