She has also had essays published in the books Christmas Miracles and Spirit of Christmas, along with three anthologies in the Tales from H.E.L. series. Commenting on her work being selected for publication in Chicken Soup, Hattingh stated, “I was a bit dumbfounded because, funny thing is, I submitted ‘Taking Care of Family,’ to the Chicken Soup editors about three years ago! So when they contacted me to say my story was chosen for one of their anthologies, I did not even know what story they were talking about; the editor had to remind me! I vaguely remembered submitting several stories to them about that time. “I always thought it would be wonderful to have one of my true stories in a Chicken Soup book, so this is a dream come true! Just to think, that people all over the world are reading my little story. The story I wrote is about something that happened in my childhood years, growing up in Delarey, a suburb of Johannesburg in South Africa. The editors wanted true stories, told in first person, about an experience from the author’s childhood that positively influenced their lives. I immediately thought of this specific story and thought it would fit the theme ‘Be Positive for Kids’ so I submitted it. Hattingh states that the book came out at the end of October (2013), and is for sale at all major book stores in Utah, including Hastings and Barnes and Noble. It has also been printed in many languages for publication around the world.
