Conditions are improving on a daily basis. An interesting fact, each year more working hours are volunteered on the ice rink than in, or on, any other department or venue in Huntsville Town. Last season more than 240 volunteer hours were put into the rink over a period of little more than two months. That is the equivalent of one worker putting in 40 hours per week for six weeks. Donations to help with fuel, water, and other supplies related to the ice rink are always welcome and may be sent to: HUNTSVILLE TOWN ATTN ICE RINK PO BOX 267 HUNTSVILLE UT 84317 Volunteers are always appreciated; we are always looking for new recruits! HUNTSVILLE NEWS cont. on page 3 Justice Court Reopening in Huntsville— Representative Gage Froerer to Valley residents will no longer have to travel to Roy Participate in Town Hall Meeting By Jim Truett, Huntsville Town Mayor Ogden Valley Justice Court is coming to Huntsville Town in early 2011. Huntsville Town used to have a Justice Court for violations written in Huntsville Town. But due to fewer citations being issued, the Huntsville Justice Court was disbanded in 2009 since the court was losing money. Early in 2010, Weber County allowed Roy City to take over the Weber County Justice Court system for the greater Weber County areas. Since then, Huntsville has been working with Roy officials to create an extension of the Roy City Justice Court that would be located in the Huntsville Town Hall. When complete, any violations written in Huntsville Town, unincorporated Huntsville, Eden, Liberty, and Ogden Canyon will no longer have to travel to Roy to pay or dispute a violation. Instead, these violations will be handled in Huntsville at the newly created extension of the Roy Justice court. The owner states that the dishwasher was lost near the corner of 8700 East and 5th South, just east of the Chevron station in Huntsville. The owner stated, “The dishwasher was inside a trailer. On January 23, 2010, Weber County was first notified that a helicopter from Diamond Peaks Heli-Ski Adventures was taking off and landing near the Red Moose Lodge in the Eden business district, apparently shuttling customers to and from an area on the back side of Powder Mountain to accommodate heli-skiing customers. Powder Mountain Marketing Director Dave Jessop stated that the Diamond Peaks heli-skiing customers are not using Powder Mountain property, but are using private property located on the back side of the resort which is situated in Cache County. The owner of Diamond Peaks Heli-Ski Adventures is Craig Olsen of Huntsville. At that time, Weber County Planner Sean Wilkinson stated that in order for a commercial helicopter business to legally be landing helicopters at a heliport site within the county, even on private property, they need to have Gault as “Citizen of the Year.” Huntsville representatives state, “Ron has continually and unselfishly served the town since 1994 as a member of the planning commission and Town Council, and currently serves as the Chair of the Planning commission. Ron also wrote the town ordinances a few years ago and has written several grant requests that have resulted in funds well in excess of $100,000. “We are fortunate to have Ron on our team as he is extremely busy, working two jobs in addition to his town gig. When not briefing Generals at the Pentagon, he is busy working for the residents of Huntsville. “One of Ron’s greatest attributes is that of humility. Quality, Division of Water Quality and the Utah Water Research Laboratory, recently completed a study whereby data was collected and analyzed to determine an area capacity curve and sediment surface area estimate for Pineview Reservoir using sonar and GPS methods. The study was released this month. The study provides accurate estimates of the water volume, water surface area, and inundated obtained a permit. According to Wilkinson, sediment surface area of the reservoir at 1 foot heliports are legal only as a conditional use in elevation intervals below the reservoir’s spill C-V 2 zones, which is the zoning where the Red Moose Lodge is located. However, at that time, a permit for a heliport had not been applied for nor approved. Since then, Wolf Creek Resort, originally represented by Eric Householder, who is no longer working for Wolf Creek, filed a petition with the county on behalf of the resort and Diamond Peaks Heli-Ski Adventures. The application stated that the desire is, “To have a heliport at Red Moose Lodge to be used by Diamond Peaks Heli Ski Adventures . . . .” In a controversial move, Weber County gave a temporary permit to the petitioners so they could continue their operation through the ski season while more information was collected on the ramifications of low-flying helicopters above the Valley floor. The petition is now, once again, on the Planning Commission agenda for Tuesday, January 25 at 5:00 p.m. in the Weber County Commission chambers, 2300 Washington Blvd., Ogden. Last year, a decision on the heliport was never made; instead, it was tabled until additional information could be gathered in an effort to determine the impact on the community.
