Show Volume XVIII Issue II The Ogden Valley news Page July 1, 2010 Fourth of July 1949 Peter M. Jensen Note: Information is from a talk offered by Keith G. Jensen at the funeral of Dillworth D. Jensen on April 6, 1973. Information submitted by Kathryn J. Ensign, Huntsville History Department. Peter M. Jensen is her grandfather, and the mischievous boys in the history are her uncles. Peter M. Jensen purchased a new car and he was exceedingly proud of it and refused to let his young sons drive it at night. Dillworth and Leslie were ingenious young men, and after giving the problem due consideration, hit upon a way of using the car without their father’s knowledge. They hooked the old work horse to the front of the car and silently towed it out of the garage and down to the roadway. Then, they quietly drove the horse back to the barn, unhooked him, and were ready to take the car out for a ride. When they returned from the ride, they same process was repeated to get the car bedded down for the night. Father Jensen was none the wiser. Sister Elizabeth Bronson Jensen, along with other sisters of the War, had each made a freezer of homemade ice cream for a social. Her sons, with other young men, decided they couldn’t possibly wait until it became time to serve the goodies to have a sample. One problem stood in their way—no dipper was available to dip with. The Jensen boys remembered their mother had one so they raced home, took the dipper back to the church, and the young fry were able to sample the ice cream—unfortunately, they forgot after sampling to return the dipper. It was soon discovered that someone had been helping themselves to the goodies. Mother Jensen recognized her dipper and also the culprits who had sampled the ice cream. Peter M. Jensen was a frugal and careful man with his money. His grandson, Keith G. Jensen, was having a hard time making ends meet, and asked his Grandfather for twelve bales of hay—Yes, he could have them, but it would cost him the prevailing price. The elder father Jensen came to Utah with substantial means, but was persuaded to put much of his money into the Perpetual Emigrating Fund of the LDS Church; unfortunately, little of it was ever repaid. He came to Huntsville and built a little dugout with willow roof in the area of the Pineview Dam. Here, some of his children were born (Peter M. Jense). The rain fell and seeped into the little dugout. Peter M. had little means and was brought up frugally and so taught and practiced the same. Elizabeth Bronson Jensen was a dainty and lovely woman and wanted great thing for her children. Peter M. Jensen was the son of Christian Jensen and Karren Pedersen. He was born January 22, 1868 in Huntsville, Utah. He married Elizabeth on June 20, 1889 in Logan, Utah. Born March 10, 1870, she was the daughter of Wilmer Bronson and Elizabeth Fisher. She was also born in Huntsville, Utah. Their children were Wilmer, Floyd, Ronald, Clarice, Royal, Lillian, Myrtle, Leslie, Dillworth, and Jean. Their family home was in Huntsville, and Mr. Jensen was a farmer. Historical Photo FOuRTH OF JuLy 1 4 in front of the Eden General Store.
