Show The Ogden Valley news Page Volume XVIII Issue I June 15, 2010 Announcements Returning Missionary Eagle Scout Award Elder Evan Lindeman, son of Jeff and Nancy Lindeman of Liberty, returned from serving in the California, Sacramento Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 3. He left for his mission from the Liburn Stake in Liburn, Georgia. He will be attending Utah Valley University in the fall after returning home to the Liberty 2nd Ward. Cory Blake Hart, 17, Troop 568, North Fork Ward. For his Eagle Scout project, Cory assembled picnic tables at the Weber County Fairgrounds. He is the son of Vern and Lora Hart of Liberty. H is a student at Weber High School. Evan Lindeman pictured left. Cory Hart Birthday Marilyn Downs Marilyn Penrod Downs celebrated her 80th birthday at a family dinner on May 15, 2010. She was born May 12, 1930 to Leo R. and Gladys S. Penrod in Liberty, Weber County, Utah. Her parents lost Marilyn Downs their farm because of the Great Depression, and they moved to Ogden where she grew up. She attended Mound Fort School and graduated from Ogden High School in 1948. She married her high school sweetheart Gerald W. Downs on May 24, 1950 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple. She was a stay-at-home mom until their four children were all in school. She then worked at Wahlquist Junior High School for ten years until her children completed their missions. She became interested in genealogy and served for 25 years as a staff member in the Ogden Family History Center. While there, she joined a group tour to England for family research and took a side trip to Europe. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Camp Silver Sage in Pleasant View for many years. After her husband died from a heart attack on the golf course at Beaver Dam, Arizona on February 25, 1992, she sold their home of 30 years in Pleasant View and moved to Roy. She has lived there with her daughter Karen Downs for 18 years. Her children are Ronald and Marie Downs, Kenneth and Kathy Downs, Gary Downs, and Karen Downs. She has 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren with three more on the way. Obituaries Gregory Lee Rhodes Gregory (Greg) Lee Rhodes passed away early May 28, 2010 after a short, painless fight. He was born January 23, 1953 in Ogden, Utah to William and Verna English Rhodes. He married Debbie Gregory Rhodes Thompson on February 14, 1987. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in November, 1990. Greg and Debbie had one daughter, Jennifer, who they loved, adored, and supported constantly. During Greg’s younger years he was an avid skier and football player. After an industrial accident, life changed for him. He had various challenges throughout his life, but continually lived life to its fullest. Greg was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served, and was involved as Scout Leader to those involved in the Special Needs Mutual. This was an enriching opportunity for Greg, and he blessed the lives of many. Greg and Debbie enjoyed their weekly “Sparetime” bowling league. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Jennifer; mother, Verna Rhodes; sister Teri (Mark) Ellison; sister-in-law Pam (Rob) Higginson; brothers-in-law Owen (Lisa) Thompson and Justin (Rachael) Thompson; and seventeen loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William Rhodes; brother Dusty Rhodes, and mother-in-law, LuJean Thompson. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the Harrisville 6th Ward, 113 Childs Avenue, Ogden, Utah. Interment in the Eden Meadow View Cemetery. BEGINNING OBEDIENCE CLASS STARTS SATURDAY, JULY 10, 2:30 PM Troop 568 from Liberty, Utah had a record eleven scouts receive their Eagle Scout awards on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Wadman Park in Liberty. The troop worked all winter long on their Eagles so they could receive them together as a group this month. Their Eagle projects will benefit the Weber County area for many years to come. Thanks to the many leaders, parents, and volunteers who helped with these projects. Stephen Baker, 16, Troop 568, North Fork Ward. For his Eagle Scout project, Stephen constructed, painted numbers, and placed Stephen Baker campsite posts in North Fork Park. He is the son of Richard and Cindy Baker of Liberty. He attends Weber High School. Chauncey Carr Griffin, 14, Troop 568, North Fork Ward. For his Eagle Scout project, Chauncey replaced the metal campfire rings with new ones in North Chauncey Griffin Fork Park. He is the son of David and Shalain Griffin. He attends Snowcrest Junior High School. Jacolby Seth Griffin, 17, Troop 568, North Fork Ward. For his Eagle Scout project, Jacolby refurbished the community bleachers at Liberty Park. He is the Jacolby Griffin son of David and Shalain Griffin, and attends Weber High School. Parker Scott Hansen, 17, Troop 568, North Fork Ward. For his Eagle Scout project, Parker collected baptismal clothing for use in Thailand. He is the son of Scott and Heidi Hansen, Parker Hansen and attends Weber High School. Beau H. Hart, 14, Troop 568, North Fork Ward. For his Eagle Scout project, Beau constructed built benches for the baseball diamond at Liberty Park. He is the son of Vern and Lora Hart of Liberty. For his Eagle Scout project, Tanner helped Valley Elementary get ready for its first year of school. He is the son of Jeff and Natalie Post of Liberty, and attends Snowcrest Junior High. He is the son of Peter Rona of Liberty and Kym Bendoski of Orlando, Florida. He attends Weber High School. Wayne Young Wayne A. Young, 15, Troop 568. For his Eagle Scout project, Wayne constructed a community bulletin board that stands at the junction of 3100 North and North Fork Road. He is the son of Roy and Karen Young of Liberty.
