Show The Ogden Valley news Page Volume XVIII Issue I June 15, 2010 Art of James Craner Now on Display @ Your Library The artwork of James Craner will be on display at the Ogden Valley Branch Library from June through July. Craner is a longtime member of Utah’s community of artists. His paintings have been widely exhibited in the region, and his prints and limited editions have found a national clientele, even gracing a wall in the Oval Office in Washington D.C. James earned a BFA from the University of Utah. His natural intuitive gifts have been enhanced by close personal study with some of the country’s most talented mentors. He has studied with Arnold Friberg, Alvin Gittens, Farrell Collette, and many others. In addition, of course, a lifetime of adsorbing the creations Planet Rainbow proudly presents Rainbow Visions’ first annual “Summer Solstice Celebration” Saturday and Sunday, June 19 and 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. At our inaugural event, Planet Rainbow will dedicate and debut “The Fairy Tree,” a “local secret treasure” hidden on the Rainbow Gardens property made famous by Charles Trentelman at the Ogden’s Standard-Examiner. The two-day event will begin Saturday, June 19 at 11:00 a.m. with a complimentary seminar given by Rachael Sweeten on a brief history and overview of the Summer Solstice, followed by a tour of the infamous Fairy Tree and dedication of the space at 12:00 noon. Simultaneously, in Planet Rainbow’s Olympic Museum and Gallery, Utah’s own paranormal author Linda Dunning will offer an extremely informative and crucial 90-minute workshop: “Intuitive Children.” This adult-only workshop will arm parents and caregivers of children with intuitive gifts with tools on assisting these children to understand their gifts, how to cope with them, and adjust to school situations ($10 per person). Craner states that none of them has had a more powerful impact on his personal vision than has the great colorist Claude Monet. Some years ago, James realized a long-held dream when he went to Giverny, France and visited Monet’s studio. While there, he was able to do some paintings of the beautiful gardens portrayed in many of Monet’s works. This was a singular highlight in an artistic career that has brought him wide recognition among his peers, and among art lovers familiar with his work. Crowley-Wilkerson Fine Arts Gallery Featured Artist Celebrates Imagination By Susan Warren rowley ilkerson Just how many different styles can one artist revel in and master? You need only see the current exhibit at the Crowley-Wilkerson Gallery in Ogden to find an answer to that question. Unlike many artists who choose to focus on one style and, perhaps, one or two subjects and hang their name and fame on that mastery, Michael Bingham seemingly can do it all: from traditional subjects like ballerinas and flowers to full-blown abstracts. I recently had a chance to chat with him for about an hour during his son’s lacrosse game and we talked about all things art and, specifically, his art. Born in Salt Lake City, and raised in Idaho, Bingham eventually found his footing at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena after a high school guidance counselor initially recommended a career in architecture as an outlet for his artistic talent. Then after two years in college, Bingham had a eureka moment: he could study to be solely an artist! Once in Pasadena, Bingham hit his stride in the area of art, design, and illustration. Bingham proudly states that this particular school in California is unique in that it was started and remains staffed by professional artists still actively working in the field. June 20th’s events will include the complimentary seminars from Saturday, as well as the “Intuitive Teens and Adults” workshop hosted by Linda Dunning at 1:00 p.m. This 90-minute class will cover much of the same info as the “Intuitive Children” workshop held on Saturday, but will be geared toward teens and their parents working together, as well as introducing information on how adults can “come into” their own gifts ($10 per person). Mrs. Dunning will also be available for private consultations from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. each day. Don’t miss this exciting new two-day event: Summer Solstice Celebration, June 19th and 20th, 2010. Having spent years touring Australia in a camper van, their music was crafted around campfires on the beach. The Waifs have toured with Bob Dylan in both Australia and the United States.
