Show The Ogden Valley news Page Volume XVI Issue II January 1, 2009 Announcements Weddings Jessica and Erik Fenenbock Creamer-Fenenbock LaMar and Tami Creamer, formerly of Liberty, proudly announce the marriage of their daughter Jessica to Erik Fenenbock, son of Dennis and Stephanie Fenenbock from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They were married Saturday, December 20, 2008 in the Bountiful LDS Temple. Jessica graduated from Weber High School and Weber LDS Seminary in 2005, and is currently a junior at BYU-Hawaii majoring in Vocal Performance. Erik graduated from Lake City High School and Seminary in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho in 2003. He served a mission for the LDS church in Oaxaca, Mexico. He is attending BYUHawaii majoring in Intercultural Studies with a focus in Anthropology. After a brief honeymoon to McCall, Idaho, the couple will live in Hawaii where they will complete their studies. Aloha! Anniversaries Couple Celebrates 70 Years of Marriage Gary and Jean Hansen Hyer Gary and Jean Hansen Hyer were honored by their family for their 70th wedding anniv e r s a r y. Family a n d Gary and Jean Hansen Hyer f r i e n d s attended an open house on Saturday, December 20 at the Taylor LDS 1st Ward. They were married on December 22, 1938 in the Logan LDS Temple. Born in Hyde Park to John and Maude Peterson Hyer, he attended North Cache High School, Weber State College, and received a bachelor’s degree from Utah State Agricultural College. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry in the European Theater of Operations during World War II and in the Medical Service Corps during the Korean War. He worked as a Weber County school teacher and counselor, and retired after 42 years with the Union Pacific Railroad. Born in Cornish to Joseph and Nola Baker Hansen, she graduated from North Cache High School. She was a full-time mother and later found time to work for Ballard and Carter Co., and as a secretary for Weber and Bonneville High schools and J. W. Brewer Tire Co. She helped her husband design and build their home. Both have been active in the LDS Church. He served as an ordinance worker in the Ogden LDS Temple for many years. Their children are William (deceased) and Linda Byram, South Weber; Steven and Myrt Hyer, South Weber; Lindsey and Bobbi Hansen, Willard; Val and Judy Hyer, Huntsville; and Doug and Sue Hyer, Pemberville, Ohio. They have 16 grandchildren, 36 greatgrandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Paul L. Military News Mycal Brown was recently (December 12) commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the United States Army at Weber State University. Mycal is the son of Forrest and SuZan Brown of Huntsville. Mycal just completed the Army ROTC program at WSU and graduated with a degree in Finance. He will be stationed next year in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Mycal Brown pictured left. Obituaries Jerry A. Shaw Jerry A. Shaw passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2008 from injuries sustained in a auto-pedestrian accident. He was born December 18, 1942 in Wichita, Kansas. He served his counJerry Shaw try in the U.S. Air Force and achieved the rank of Major prior to his retirement in 1986. Jerry received his B.A. from Pittsburg State University. He loved skiing at Powder Mountain, and had a passion for running, biking, kayaking, and camping. He also enjoyed playing the guitar, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Fred Henry Beers After a short illness, Fred Henry (Hank) Beers of Rome, New York and Clearfield, Utah died December 13, 2008 at North Davis Hospital. He was born in Port Jervis, New York on October 3, 1932 to Fred Beers Howard D. Beers and Martha Lucinda Woods. He grew up in Rome where he attended Rome Free Academy and played junior varsity basketball. Upon graduation he joined the army and served in Korea. Dad married the love of his life, Martha Irene Smith, on September 28, 1957. The couple started their family in Rome with three children, and completed the six-pack with their fourth child in Clearfield after the move to Utah in 1965. Dad loved to ski and volunteered for the ski patrol for many years at Snow Basin and Powder Mountain. He volunteered and served his community in many ways: umpiring and refereeing in numerous local athletic programs, volunteering as a medic for rodeos and other events, driving for He married Kay Dickey in June of 1965 who divorced Jerry. He married Judy Urey and they divorced. He then married Kathy Cox and later divorced. Jerry is survived by daughters Michelle (John) Hackney of Texas, Annette (Troy) Cook of Kansas, and Angela (Chris) Westerberg of Kansas. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Barbara Greathouse and JoEllen Greathouse Goeiting. A celebration of Jerry’s life was held Monday, December 15, 2008 at Cornerstone of Wichitat Memorial, Wichita Kansas. As Jerry often said, “The road goes on forever and the party never ends. He was always supportive of his children’s activities such as becoming a referee for gymnastics and judo. He was his children’s biggest fan. Dad served in the Navy Reserves for 30 years. He retired from work at Hill Air Force Base in 1987 with 34 years of service. He is survived by his son Dean H. (Terri) Beers of Bremerton, Washington. Also daughters Dawn Y. Lyons, Clinton, UT; Darla J. Beers, Clearfield, UT; and Danielle M. (Lonnie) Allen, Pleasant View, UT; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one sister, Esther Boddy if Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha. Ultimately, dad’s life was about service to others and he was always there when needed.
