You are invited to attend an artist reception on Friday, April 7 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in association with the First Friday Street Stroll. The exhibits continue through April 26. An annual event for numerous years, the Weber County School District’s Secondary Student exhibit will be on display this year for the entire month of April. This exhibit includes the artwork of high school students from Bonneville, Fremont, Roy, and Weber, as well as junior high school students from North Ogden, Orion, Rocky Mountain, Roy, Sandridge, Snowcrest, South Ogden, T.H. Bell, and Wahlquist. The curator for this exhibit is Weber High School art teacher Daren Wilding. The exhibit will be judged with students receiving awards in a variety of categories. Junior High School categories differ only slightly with places for Black & White, Colored Media, Painting, and Sculpture. The student awards will be announced after April 10. Paul and Debra Muller Over the years, Paul Muller has been a navy pilot, a pharmacist, the owner and operator of Paul’s Pharmacy on 12th and Washington, breeder/handler of champion collies, a collector of antique postcards of Ogden, a lobbyist for pharmacy legislation, and the Executive Director of the Utah Pharmaceutical Association. During all these experiences, he has enjoyed an interest in photography. He purchased his first 35 mm camera, “a sweet Leica” as a naval pilot in World War II. Paul has been a member of the Ogden Color Camera Club (now Ogden Camera Club) since the early 1950’s. He has held various offices and had been a member of the Board of Directors for this local group of photographers. He has competed and been awarded honors and best of shows in their competition as well as regional and national exhibitions and salons. His photos have appeared in local and national magazines and calendars. His photos have been exhibited in Germany as well as locally. He passed his love of photography on to his children—Pauline, Debra, and Curtis— presenting them with a variety of cameras and equipment over the years. Debra inherited her love of photography from her father and great-grandfather. Her father gave her a Kodak instamatic for her first camera when she was eight years old. He next purchased a Pentax (her favorite camera that she still uses) when she was in college, and a digital camera just a couple of years ago. At Weber State University, Debra studied photography with Fred Rabe. In the past she has been a member of and competed with the Ogden Color Camera Club. Her photography was exhibited at the Ogden Nature Center in August 2007. Come enjoy the students’ art and the Muller’s photography at the Eccles Community Art Center and Carriage House Gallery. Regular gallery hours are weekdays 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Admission is free. Weber County Republican Women Hear Experiences from Iraq— Donate to help wounded soldiers The Weber County Republican Women invited Vickie McCall to speak at their February meeting regarding her visit to Iraq last fall. It was very moving to hear of her experiences. One that sparked everyone’s interest was her visit to the hospitals where she was able to visit with the injured soldiers and hear their stories. As she left the hospitals, she asked the administrators what she could possibly do to help. They said that when these soldiers come to the hospitals, they have nothing— even their backpacks are often left behind. Therefore, they could use some comfortable clothing to wear as they leave the hospital. So Weber County Republican Women are joining the crusade to gather sweat suits and summer lounging clothing. The Republican Women are also reaching out to other contacts and associations to help. If any individuals are interested in donating sweats, please contact Gloria Froerer at 745-0505 or Ellen Fowers at 745-3334. Gloria can gather from the Huntsville area and Ellen from the Eden/ Liberty area. Thank you for your support of this worthwhile effort.
