Randy Chatelain explains, “I love nature! As long as I can remember, I’ve had a special fascination with wild animals, and love to observe animals in their natural habitat when they seem unaware of my presence. I have a special talent of being able to find and get close to animals. A couple of years ago I invested in a high quality spotting scope and was delighted in what I was able to observe close-up and in great detail. “This renewed exploration of wildlife soon exposed me to the beautiful world of birds. I call them “God’s flying flowers.” They are all around and I can enjoy them every where I go. For the last few years, I have been intensely studying birds, and have met many wonderful birdwatchers who willingly shared their knowledge and joy of watching birds. “For years, I have also enjoyed photography and I found myself wanting to, not only “see” birds and animals, but to capture their beauty, then share my photos with other people. Wildlife photography is a very specialized type of photography with very technical (and expensive!) equipment. At its highest level, the results are thrilling. I hope you enjoy the results. “The photographs in this gallery represent a small handful of the thousands of photos I have taken over the last few years. I have photographs of over 150 different types of birds. In addition, I still enjoy photographing wild animals. Aren’t the photographs of the young fox delightful! “My photography skills have been recognized with ‘Best of Show’ and ‘Sweepstakes Winner’ awards at the Weber County Fair. Last year I was also invited to do a one-man show at the Antelope Island Visitor’s Center. I especially enjoy sharing my photos with friends who love wildlife.” Dr. Chatelain is best known as an Associate Professor of Family Relations at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. He is also a respected Marriage and Family Therapist. He and his wife Pam live on Coldwater Creek in North Ogden, Utah where they have raised their five children and now enjoy their grandchildren. On January 25 and 26, the Weber State University Department of Performing Arts will present “The Musical of Musicals: The Musical” directed by Jim Christian. Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Allred Theater, Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts. A fundraising event, all tickets are $10 with monies used to defray the costs of sending the production on the road to the 2008 ACTF Regional Festival at California State University, Los Angeles on February 11 - 16, 2008. The “play,” consisting of five musical theatre parodies on a single theme, is the work of Eric Rockwell (music, book) and Joanne Bogart (lyrics, book). It is full of one-liners, puns, and other jokes that are specifically based on the styles of five influential musical theatre creators: Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Kander and Ebb. Rockwell skillfully manages to capture the distinctive sounds of the five composers, building around the familiar melodies with original arrangements.
