Show The Ogden Valley news Page Volume XIV Issue XXI August 15, 2007 Announcements Anniversaries Obituaries Charles & Jacquelyn Harrop Charles and Jacquelyn “Jackie” Harrop celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends on August 3, 2007 at the home of their daughter Leah Land. They were married August 3, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. They have three daughters: Leah and Blaine Land, South Weber; Deanne and Ken Coates, Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Janel and Rick Connors, South Ogden. They also have nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. After living in Huntsville for many years, they now reside in South Ogden. He was born February 11, 1926 in the family home on Harrisville Road. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Magoffin in the South Pacific during World War II and aboard the USS Princeton during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Defense Depot Ogden for 33 Charles and Jacquelyn years and retired in 1976. He is an active member of the Harrop Ogden Athletic Club. She was born April 21, 1928 in Rawlins, Wyoming. She graduated from Ogden High School with the class of 1946. Her greatest joy is her family, and raising and caring for her children and grandchildren. She enjoys baking, working in her small garden, and her walks around the neighborhood. Obituaries Don Alfred White Don Alfred (Alf) White 84, our beloved grandfather, father, and spouse, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2007. Alf was born the tenth of twelve children to Jacob Jeremiah and Julia Ellen Potts White on November 5, 1922 in Collinston, Utah. His family moved to Garland where he went to school and graduated from Bear River High School. Alf was very active in sports, holding two Desert News Pentathlon records for many years and receiving All State Football status. He was awarded a football scholarship to Weber College after graduation but that era of his life was cut short when he was drafted into World War II. Serving in the China Burma India Theater from 19421945, he was proud of the fact that he had traveled around the world. Alf and Leone resided in Garland and Preston, Idaho for a brief time before moving to River Heights where they raised their family. Here Don White Alf was an active member of the River Heights Wards, and the River Heights Lions Club. For years he was the River Heights “Santa Claus” and took pleasure in this special service. He worked for many valley auto dealers as parts and service manager, spending the last 27 years at Ellis Equipment. He was always quick to help neighbors and widows in need. Leone and Alf enjoyed supporting the Cache Valley Arts together. They were also avid Aggie fans. In November 2000 his companion of 55 years, Leone, passed away. He was blessed to marry Margaret Fletcher on August 9, 2001 and they have had six happy years together. Alf’s family thanks Margaret for her untiring service and unconditional love for their father and grandfather, especially during this difficult past month. Alf is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leone; his daughter Sue; greatgranddaughter Elizabeth White; sisters Aileen Simmons, Olive Durphey, Idella White, June Pinder, and Beth Hansen; and brothers Thomas Henry, Dallas Jacob, and John Ray. He is survived by his wife Margaret White; and three sons, Don Alfred (Rosemary) of Liberty, Utah; Jon Mark (Darlene) of Cove, Utah; and Val Reed (Debbie) of Oakland, California; and sonin-law Jeff Taylor (Barbara) of Preston, Idaho. He is also survived by brother James White (Zenna) of Garland, Utah; and two sisters, Lola Guyon of Paige, Arizona and Dorothy Jensen of Salt Lake City, Utah. Surviving also are step-children Terrell Fletcher (Trish) of Mendon, Utah; Saesha Stokes of Mendon; Alisha Zilles (Tracy) of River Heights; Krista Fletcher of Salt Lake City; Andra Reeder (Cody) of Wellsville, Utah; Chad Fletcher (Camille) of Kuna, Idaho; and brother-in-law Tom Gensler (Karen) of Omaha, Nebraska. Alf loved his immediate and extended family and enjoyed reunions and holidays. He has a large legacy of children and adults who affectionately call him Grandpa White. He has 21 grandchildren, 21 step-grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren. Until his last month, Alf was physically active and enjoyed working with Margaret in their beautiful yard. He was a kind man, a man of integrity, a handsome man, and a gentleman to the very end. He will be missed and remembered fondly by all who knew and loved him as he returns to his Father in Heaven. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the Providence Stake Center in River Heights, Utah. A viewing was held July 30 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Logan, and at the Church prior to services. Interment in the Providence City Cemetery in River Heights. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting that a donation be made to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Alf’s name. Adell entered this life on October 17, 1945 to Sam and Lynette Harris. Adell has a sister, Renee (Fred) Mastriona, Wheatland, Wyoming; and a brother, Larry Harris, Farr West, Utah. She was a past guardian of IOJD #2. She was a member of Eastern Star, Miriam Chapter #14. On December 21, 1963 she married Gordon Russell. They later divorced but remained friends.
