This bill, the School Safety Amendment, adds harassment or intimidation to the list of grounds for which a public school could suspend or expel a student. The ability to attend school without fear of bullying should be such a basic right for all students that | would hope this bill passes by a large margin. I think one of the major problems of the world is pollution. It makes me really depressed to see so much pollution in the air. Sometimes it’s so polluted we don’t even know if there is a sky anymore. Not even the sunsets are beautiful; the air pollution blocks out the beauty. I personally think all this pollution is starting to kill us. Even the trees can’t clean our air anymore We just keep making it worse. The rea- (mea Huntsv son we make it worse is because we just don’t want to walk to work or even schoo The oil factories are not helping either. We need to stop depending on our old transportation methods. We d to create a way to clear up all this smog. We shouldn’t worry about war as much as cleaning our home planet Earth. If we could fix this problem, then I believe a lot of others would end. | think we should set our differences with one another aside and get to our biggest problem, cleaning up Mother Earth. Jordan Brasher, Huntsville - lor Community Director Needed Does State Representative have Conflict of Interest? Dear Football Parents, State Representative Gage Froerer recently sent out a questionnaire seeking input on a number of issues. One question was: “More than 2/3 of Utah is owned by the federal government, and a significant percentage of the remainder is owned by the state, leaving little in the way of private land. Do you favor legislation enabling the state to acquire more land, especially for open space for trails and preservation of watershed?” I have to wonder if the Representative sincerely believes that elimination of federal land would promote open space. One might argue that the government does too little to promote local uses of federal land, but federal stewardship is surely preferable to surrendering the fate of these open spaces Utah’s woeful land use planning sys. Rhetoric about open space aside, the first part of the Representative’s question suggests that this proposal is about using state funds to buy federal land and hand it to private interests. It is commendable that Representative Froerer has asked for our view on this subject. My own view is that any state effort to “preserve” federal open space would be disingenuous, and that for Representative Froerer, a leading local realtor, this issue has “conflict of interest” written all over it. As you know, this 2006 season was our last as directors. We have officially retired from the director position for Ogden Valley Football. We are currently searching for a committee to replace us. We have a few families willing to assist, but no one to act as the actual direcor.
