Work schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather, equipment attend a planning meeting or two—even By Shanna Francis e big news in Ogden Valley lately seems to be the talk of the hefty increases in our recent property tax assessments with some rates doubling or even tripling. Since it appears that the tax increases caught many by surprise, the news to me is that the rising costs were such a shock to property owners. I might ask, “What planet have these Ogden Valley residents been living on?” Every time I attend a planning meeting where decisions will be made that are crucial to the future of Ogden Valley, 99.9% of my neighbors and friends are missing, and I see the writing is on the wall for the Valley. While large developers and resort owners have been working overtime over the past several years to insure hefty returns on their investments by marketing their resorts and “premiere” developments nationally and even internationally, many locals sit by, too busily caught up in their own busy lives to RESCUE page 1 those so critical in determining the future complexion of Ogden Valley. I know everyone is very, very busy. I know it’s much easier for residents to shake their heads and consul themselves that there is nothing they can do anyway, “You can’t stop ‘progress.’” es, it’s much easier to wipe your hands clean of what’s going on and stick your head in the sand, but, sadly, the day of reckoning always arrives. Better to take stock of the ommunity environment and fight for your rights from the beginning, and work to shape your community’s future and the impact government actions will have on you and your family—physically, economically, and socially. Sadly, the easiest lie to believe is that an individual has no say or influence on shaping the future of their community. By believing this, you may as well as throw those who have an economic stake in doing so EDITOR’S VIEW cont. on page 13 cont. from cated that the vehicle left the rode and traveled approximately 210 feet before landing in the water below.
