Tractor Trek Organized to Protest County Tax Increase A group of concerned citizens of Ogden Valley invite you to join in a protest of the recent decision of Weber County Commissioners Ken Bishoff and Craig Dearden to increase county property taxes. On Saturday, October 1, a parade of tractors will travel through Ogden Valley to protest the tax hike and rising property assessments. Many Valley residents are concerned that if tax increases and property values continue to rise, longtime and lifetime residents will not be able to keep their lands and/or homes and the vital open space maintained by ar farmers and ranchers will be lost to further development. We tie that the August 23, 2005 decision of the commissioner’s to raise taxes did not adequately take into consideration the many residents of Weber County who are on fixed incomes, nor other alternatives available to generate revenue for the county. First Aid Kits Assembled by Ogden Valley Community Serve Hurricane Victims Many of our ranchers and farmers are working additional jobs to sustain their ability to farm and ranch in Ogden Valley. Some are retired and on fixed incomes that do not provide allowances for the substantial increases in property taxes and assessments that are occurring in this part of the county The Tractor Trek is an idea that was born in response to recent tax hikes and the resulting concerns of local farmers and ranchers who don’t want to lose their farms. Anyone interested in participating is invited to meet at American Legion Post 129 in Huntsville. A buffet breakfast will be served at 9:00 a.m. We are asking anyone with a tractor to join in this demonstration. n entry fee of $15.00 is being charged to cover expenses such as traffic control by the Weber County Sheriff's office. I recently toured the Church’s Humanitarian Center in Salt Lake City after traveling to the center with LDS Huntsville Utah Stake Relief Society President Rosemary White of Nordic Valley and former President Kathy Froerer of Huntsville to formerly present to the center for distribution, 1,000 first aid kits recently assembled by Ogden Valley residents. Community members in the Valley assembled the first aid kits earlier this year as part of a pilot project for the church. The kits are designed to be used by non professional medical personnel as a Snowbasin component of disaster relief aid. Only days after the kits were completed, the LDS church received a request for first aid packages as part of the relief effort directed towards the disaster area left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The kits were quickly gathered ten to a box, and 80 boxes to a pallet. These pallets full of boxes were then shrink wrapped in preparation for shipment to the disaster area in addition to ten truck loads of hygiene kits, saws, tents, tarps, ropes, and other needed supplies that had already been shipped to the hurricane site prior to August 31, 2 The first aid kits assembled by about 150 Valley residents were the - of many more that are now being compiled. church recently acquired resources to create 16,000 additional kits.
