Pal played the alto saxophone with other locals including Roy Judd on the trumpet. During the depression era of the I930's he worked in several mines to keep his family of five boys and one daughter. lie broke his leg while working in a Park City Silver Mine and later contracted and died of emphysema, or black lung after working in the Chapel Coal Mine in Coalville. Today, Norma Lee McMichael, the great-gregranddaughter of William lives in the home on S. West lloytsville Road. There she keeps the memories of her family along with one of Summit County's first pianos. The only other piano was located in a bar in Park City. "Music has been in this house since the day it was built." says Norma Lee. The native mahogany, concert Upright is elaborately embellished with hand carved legs and wild roses on the front panel. "It has a beautiful, deep tone and is absolutely gorgeous," she said Norma Lee hopes to restore the original Victorian look of her family home. The William and Elizabeth V McMichael House represents one of the few remaining original homes in the long, sleepy valley that was a perfect spot for farming and raising cattle. He left Idaho Power Company where he was a Certified Public Accountant and tire Tax Manager for 21 years to work with Northwest Baptist Missions, a church planting organization with headquarters in Salt Lake City. He was the office manager of Northwest Baptist Missions, but was preaching filling pulpits of churches complete. In the late 1 800s, dances were one of the sole forms pf entertainment within a community. William's father. Robert, played the violin with several other fiddlers in a local dance band. Dances were held frequently at the schcxil houses and churches but many times a dance would occur by word of mouth and end up in someone's living room. Furniture and rugs would be pulled away and (he people would dance all night long. It is said that the only break they look was to eat dmiici at midnight then continue oil until the early morning hours. . The dances were mostly Scottish jig and reel squaic dance sets. The dance was most likely traditional, involving a quadiillc that consisted of four couples. Because shoes were so scarce, several pair would be exchanged between dancers for proper shuffling and step dancing. At one lime the town of lloytsville boasted four big bands complete with horns and organs. Pat's Irish Five played for more .. .Summit County Briefs I In a report from the Summit Continuedfrmn page A County Sheriff s Office. 24 year old Chad Covington had been fishing with friends at the lake when the canoe they were using capsized. According to witnesses, the victim was wearing heavy clothing and was not able to regain a hold on the craft. -- The other occupant of the canoe tried to assist the victim who panicked and began to null him under, and he could not hold onto him. The victim was later located and the body' recovered by divers and pronounced dead at the scene. The death is being investigated by the Summit County Sheriff s Office and the Utah Medical Examiners Office. Fire Strikes Lambs Canyon Area Thursday Oct. 4 the largest fire so far this year in the county burned approximately 90 to 100 acres near the Lambs Canyon area. Traffic was and about stalled for a time on 40 homes had to be evacuated in the Summit Park region while fircfight-er- s from Salt likc. Summit County, Wasatch Co. and the Forest Service worked to contain the blaze. Air tankers provided water drops, dozers,, arrived to plow fire breaks and ambulance personnel from Park City, and North and South Summit responded. Our services arc Sunday mornings gospel music in Idaho, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming and Nevada. Jerry is the at 11:00 a.m., and Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. children and wait out tlie fire hoping they could return home soon. They got their wish and were able to travel to their homes around 8 p.m. with the fire beginning in the early afternoon hours. Cause of the fire was being blamed on a burning tire which came from a boat trailer. Cat MauledAgencies To Assist The owners of a six year old orange tabby cat named Boh" returned home to find their family pet had been mauled by two dogs, described as a lab and a mixed breed by a witness. The witness said he noticed a man about 40 years old and 165 lbs. watch as the dogs left the rail trail, went to the yard and tore the cat apart, lie then left with the dogs and has not been found. Several ads have been placed in The Park Record asking for help in the matter. Summit County Jailer, Paul Gordon Farrell lost his life after a showed their support by courageous battle with cancer. His and in many untold his offered have their condolences funeral, attending ways. As often happens, little problems seem to creep up after a loss of such magnitude takes place. Pauls wife, Sheri Ann Farrell of Chalk Creek, was in need of a porch to replace the sagging one she had on the back of her home. When word reached the attention of Jailer, Brody Taylur, he realized he could make a difference and made a decision to'pitch in and make the porch a reality for the family. Taylor was assisted by fellow officer. Kirk Orgill and friend, Brady Sargent. Using their time off wisely. the three worked hard to get the porch done before cooler fall temperatures set in. Tlicir cl lints were greatly appreciated and warmly received by Sheri and her sons. Justin and Kameron. According to Sheri, this latest installment is only oitc part of the compassion shown by Bnxiy. He has helped clean out sheds, haul stuff to the dump etc., he has just been a great person to help our family. It has been neat to know someone cares and been so willing to help out and volunteer their lime. I also appreciate the support he gives to Kameron."
