Over a two week period, the students have read a total of 40,4027 minutes. Our goal is to reach over 200.000 minutes. Each student is required to read 20 minutes per day at home. Each week, a student is drawn from the reading notes that have been turned in and they are given a prize. This week's winner of two free Cream O' Weber Chugs is Jamie West. At the end of the seven week time frame, the student who has the highest total of minutes will receive a Olden Polynice autographed Harry Potter book. Student Writer: Crystal Robinson and Chablce Vernon caught up in the freshmen's excitement and the Cowboys sneaked by with the win by just three points. Varsity started out strong on defense, hut had a difficult time finding the hasket on the other end. The score remained close throughout the game, but the Cow hoys took away the victory, winning by three points. The Lady Braves will he playing this Saturday. Feb. 3, at the North Summit High School. The Lady Braves played the Grantsville Cowboys on Jan. 26. The Freshmen I.ady Braves were pumped up to play the Cowboys. The Braves played great offense and defense against the Cowboys, and it showed with the Braves winning. The JV Lady Braves were Student Writer: Kristin Williams The Lady Braves looked impressive from the moment that (hey first took the floor on Tuesday night. Jan. 23. They hustled well on defense, allowing Rowland Hall only 17 points in the first half, while putting up 27 of their own. The Winged Lions proved that they were not going to he overtaken so easily as they came out aggressively in the third quarter. The Lions closed the gap between the scores; holding out for an intense last minute. With thirteen seconds left the Braves fouled, sending Rowland Hall to the foul line. Both shots were made, putting the Lions ahead with a one point lead. The Braves sent the hall down the court, hoping for a chance at (he has Esonas Breakdown Student Writer: Chelscy Sargent girls earned a safety hazard penalty which docked the score 3.5 points from each of the five judges. The Esonas have had a terrific year and worked hard to show their dances off at school games and competitions. Unfortunately, the team will not be going to state but their year is still not over. The girls will continue performing at all home games and holding their annual Review Night where they will perform their competition dances and other routines from the year. The Review Night will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the North Summit High School gym. The Esonas would like to thank everyone who came to support them Grantsville High School was Jumping when the North Summit Esonas entered, ready to start their march to State competition. Region competition began at 10 a.m. with six 2A drill teams, including North South Manti, Juah, Summit, Summit, Gunnison, and Grantsville competing. The Esonas were full of energy and ready to win. After performing their, dances, it was time for the awards. The Esonas held hands ready for the announcements. The ending score was a large margin of 35 to 14. Whitney Peck topped all scorers with 12 points. Amber Wixid and Jamie Butcher gave a great effort on defense and really hustled. Jalee Vernon did a good job as point guard in directing the team, Coach Dave Peck commented after his freshmen girls' team defeated the Winged I Jons 38 to 23. Amanda Robinson contributed an incredible 17 points, including a three-poishot in the fourth quarter. has-keth- nt Region Swim Meet Student Writer: Paula Chappell The Region Swim Meet was held Jan. 26 and 27 at Park City. Chelscy Clark placed first overall in the 500 freestyle. Rosilyn Peterson placed third in the 20Q individual medley. Cassie DeJong placed seventh in the SO freestyle. Chelsey also placed tenth in the 50 freestyle with Cassie at Region. placing second in the 100 back stroke. The medley team placed second in all lAand 2A. The team placed fourth overall in region. The girls qualified for state in the 200 medley relay. Rosilyn and Cassie both qualified for state in two events. The state swim meet will be on Fch. 9 and 10 at BYU.
