Show Coalville, Utah 84017 Friday, December 29, 2000 Vol.69No.51 Ultralight Plane Accident Causes Serious Injuries To Henefer Resident BY PAMELA ROBBINS Bet Editor Henefer resident, Rulon Richins. age 48. was seriously injured in an accident while flying his ultralight plane on Saturday, December 23. According to a Sheriff s report. Richins had been flying his craft without incident when he turned east, banked to the southeast and headed northwest at which time he was not able to gain the needed altitude and crashed after a wing struck an embankment. According to a witness, there was turbulence in the area which may have contributed to the accident The community and surrounding areas have been deeply affected by this event, especially with the holiday season, and knowing the family members.' The family; his wife Kass, children- Hannah. Josh. Daniel. Micah, Jordan. Mont, Jesse and Kathryn (their spouses and extended family members) have expressed their deep appreciation for all the concern, support and love extended to them at this time, as they continue to wait at the University of Utah hospital. Fourth and seventh graders can submit their views in the Why I Like My Community Essay contest, sponsored by the Utah League of Cities and Towns. First place winners on each grade level will receive $100 and their schools will receive $1,000. Second place winners will receive $75, with $750 going to their schools, and third place winners will receive $50 and $500. Principals received contest guidelines and entry forms in August. Summit County was honored with not only one award, but three. According to Barbara Kresser. County Assessor, nominations are sent into the Organization from those belonging to the association as well as individuals not part of the group. Receiving an award from your peers really means a lot so receiving three of them at one time was really special. The banquet was held at The Inn Carriage Rttom at Temple Square. County Commission Chairman. Pat Cone, thanked the three for their work ethics and standards, maintained in order to receive the awards, nttl only oh behalf of the county but their personal achievements as well. July 2000 llolly Marie Butler was crowned Miss Kamas Valley of the century on June 30. Named as members of her court were; Amber Rydalch and Tasia WooUtenhulme. Karen Latham was Miss Congeniality. Jay dee Blackburn, age 18, was fatally injure! while participating in a Rodeo Saddle Bronc Competition event held in Evanston, Wyo. He was well known at a jack of all trades and a lover of cowboy ways and traditions. His funeral services were held in Henefer on July 6. 2000.
