Show September 1, 2000 Page A7 The Summit County Bee North Summit Senior Citizens BY LOUISE WALLACE greetings to you all and they readily admit that they do miss us. They're getting active in church and civic things and they look pretty good. Was nice to visit with them. I didn't hear of any new millionaires but we sure were well fed. The meeting at the Center on ' Wednesday went on just as though we werent missing. However, I kind of think they were glad to see us back where we belonged on Friday. Our board meeting Friday went well. We thank Loraine Rock for handling the activities in August. The last thing she has arranged is the potluck supper and video of "Message In A Bottle" this Thursday, starts about 4 p.m. with supper at 6 p.m. Its going to be another one of those yummy, good fixin's. Amy Shaw is in charge of September so we know we're in for another fun month.' Saturday was the Senior Convention with Park City club as hosts. We went by Donnas Tour bus to the Park City LDS Stake Center for a good dinner and was entertained by Miss A roup, which included 24 friends and members from here and another 29 from the Kamas area plus two from Park City enjoyed three days and saw two very good stage plays in Tuachan. We also had about the hottest (and I can't say we enjoyed that) weather that I can remember since leaving Minnesota some 20 odd years ago. Now, I just bet you are going to say that Coalville weather has spoiled me and you know what, you would be -- absolutely right. They told us Tuesday night that it had been 117 in Tuachan that day and I expect it had cooled down to maybe 90 by the time we were at the show. 1 was miserable but couldn't help but feel sorry for the performers who were wearing heavy costumes and stage make-u- p and still dancing and singing so well. All in all, being miserable for a little while was well worth it. We stayed nights in Mesquite and met Jerry and Lillie Burt who are living there now. While there, we had the news that Gordon Taylor has been in the hospital the last ten days. There are plans to give him a pacemaker so he may be home by now. The first time back after losing a loved one is always hard but the quicker one does it the better off they are. so we were glad that Wes Fisher came out on Friday. I dont think it will be long until he heads back to Overton for the BYCIIKKI BEAL winter though. We'll enjoy his company as long as it lasts. Its nearly time for Marilyn and Ron Green from CamperWorld to head back to their winter quarters, too. We've got some sick people in our area and we send them our best wishes. Superla Staley has been a mighty sick lady but has had gall bladder surgery now and home be should shortly. Hopefully better than ever. Joe Dalton is feeling some better but still not quite up to par. Dolly Simister is recovering from a painful broken pelvis she got when she was in an auto accident a few weeks ago. Marie McMichacl's mother. Helen Welch is another one. Helen doesn't belong to our dub, of fcoursc, but she reads The Bee faithfully to keep up on the of all you folks. First she fell and broke a wrist. Last week she fell again and was hospitalized with a low blood condition. Marie tells me. that she has regained much of her strength and is back home and able to take care of herself with just some day people helping her and, of course, her son Dennis to check on her hap-oenin- gs regularly. I havent heard how our other not so well friends are doing so I hope the old saying "No news is good news" is true in all cases. Its back to school for the children. One teacher wrote a note to the parents of all her students. It Subscribe To The Pres. Glen Smith told me the gang would be pulling out for Mesquite at 7:30 am on Tuesday and I wanted to be there to bask in the excitement and bid them "goodbye". Ole Betsy needed some air in her tires so I filled her up and was a few minutes late getting to the Center. When I arrived, much hi my dismay, there was nuthin but dust and a few cars in the parking lot. Guess when they say 7:30 they mean just that! Barbara Prescott was the "Newsy" on the trip and this report came from her Everyone was happy and ready for fun. LaRae, Barbara and Pauline were slow as usual. LaRae had to let her dog out, Pauline had to take care of a patient, and Barbara had no excuse. Glen set up a table for the card players and Mirla, Beth, Joyce and LaRae had a blast playing cards with Mirla and Joyce battling for the coveted title cf "Winner". Mirla took the title. Pit slops were made in Nephi and Beaver then it was on to the Casa Blanca in Mesquite for a complimentary meal and later the same at Virgin River. Everyone had a great time gambling or just having fun, leaving their money at Virgin Riser. The bus left for Tuacahn in St. George for the show "Music Man". Senior quotes about the show were, "good" and "loved the music". Everyone departed for their rooms around 1 a.m. with the exception of LaRae and Shirley who fell they needed to finish their gambling and win back what they left in Mesquite. LaRae said she did very well but Shirley stayed until 6 a.m. How did you do Shirley? ' Dona Tours provided a wonderful " lireak'fasl on Wednesday morning and the rest of the day was left to everyone to do as they pleased then it was off to Tuacahn at 6 p.m. for another complimentary feast of Bar-B-beef and chicken, potatoes, beans, salad, rolls and peach cobbler with ice cream for dessert Sounds Q like the guests were stuffed. The mike was opened to anyone in the audience who wanted to sing. Did any of our fun lovin' crooners, take the opportunity? Our Seniors reported "Fiddler on the Roof" as being their favorite show saying they thought it was excellent". Two of our Setiiur ladies (and girls, you KNOW who you are and so do we!) were so tired they left their key in the door when they went to bed that night in case "a gentlemen came calling". We heard there was even some "cheek to cheek" dancing was that with the gentlemen callers? It was up Thursday morning fur breakfast and then we headed for home. Joyce crocheted all the way when she wasn't playing cards. Loella entertained all of us singing, "New. Nue Cheer". Is that Lie song that goes with the joke I heard Loella? Beth was anxious"!?) to get back and prepare to cook our meal on Friday. Mud was quiet this trip not feeling well Mud? There were two still windmills on the desert and Glen told us if they'd take one down there would be enough wind to turn the other one. So tell us Mr. Smith have you had personal experience with windmills or windy people? Of course, we had to make a stop in Beaver for squeaky cheese and icecream. Weldon Prescott said he was ready to go on the next trip when is it Mary? Thanks to our Pres. Glen and wife Mary Smith for arranging this fabulous trip and also to our host Ira Butler and driver, Dick Denning, who made it all possible. I sure want to thank Barbara for . keeping labs on the Seniors and for . fillin me in on what took place.. On Friday, Glen was still feeling the effects of all the fun and put our Senior flag out upside down. He sure took a ribbing for that he said he was expecting a disaster.
