Walker, 41, of Morgan, was inducted as President of the Utah Funeral Director's Association Thursday evening, April 27, 2000 at the Annual UFDA Convention held at the Eccles Convention Center in Ogden. Purpose of the UFDA is to provide the 200 member funeral directors from all over Utah with continuing education classes required to maintain their licenses and fill certification hours. Lyle Hillyard, Education Task Force created by the 2000 Legislature. During the 2000 legislative session, lawmakers identified five areas that required study: applied technology education, decriminalization of traffic offenses, funding of public education, entities and water development. Hillyard, the Senate Majority Leader, is one of three stale senators appointed to the Funding' of Public Education Task Force. The task force's duties, as outlined in House Bill 426, are: (1) The task force shall review and make recommendations on the following issues: (a) current state and local practices regarding the funding of the state's public education system, including designated revenue sources and funding formulas such as voted and board leeway's, school fees, the capiand tal outlay foundation program, and the funding formulas for student education special populations; (h) those conditions and tools that enable schools to provide each student a reasonable opportunity to achieve expected educational goals or objectives; (c) current school spending practices; (d) equity and adcqaacy in funding public education; (e) alternative revenue sources for funding public education; plan to increase public education funding; (0 providing for a long-terand . I have a rural background and understand the needs of those living on the Eastern side of the County, and would work to make Summit County a bettor place to live. David Bell, a local businessman who has rubbed shoulders" with candidate Randy Ovard. for many years, nominated him at the Convention saying he would make a good representative who would treat each area of the County with fairness because he has spent most of his life trying to help others." RaNae Crittenden was the nominating senting the facts for the residents. He spoke of his concern for the elderly and widows throughout the County, and that he feels it is important to have representation from the three distinct areas within the county. "I would always be open and would return phone calls." This year, the Republican party implemented an instant runoff multiple ballot procedure used when three or more candidates are nominated for the same office. The ballots allow delegates to vote for the candidate's by listing them in the order they chose as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th choice. If a candidate attains a 6091 majority of first choice votes, that candidate is declared the nominee of the pariy-whic- h is what gave Randy the nomination and the party a reprieve from a primary election. delegate for Coalville resident, Merlyn Johnson. She spoke of his service in being the city's major saying he was "not afraid to take on a issue" and worked hard for the residents. He would represent the entire County well. Dr.Wayne Bosworth seconded the nomination saying Johnson offers "integrity, honesty and experience and has time to serve." Merlyn thanked the Media for their dedication and service to the community in pre Superintendents Association, the Utah Parents and Teachers Association, the Utah Public Education Coalition, the Utah Education Association, and other members of the state's public education community.
