A vin number check led them ki contact the West Jordan Police dept, where they found the vehicle owner was incarcerated in the Salt Lake County Jail. The vehicle was impouialed per West Jordan's request. A complainant phoned dispatch to request assistance in having a trespasser leave from a building. The Trespasser" told the officer that he owned a large portion of the equipment located in the building and he wanted it. The officer told the man that he should obtain an attorney to settle the matter as it was "civil" in nature. Three males were arrested and transported to jail on theft charges for taking items valued at $3(X).(X) a class B misdemeanor. Because they had only been in the area for several months they reported they did not remember where they lived. While parked in the median checking easthound traffic on an officer noticed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed which turned out to be 99 in a 65 officer noticed the driver was following others too closely and was making unsafe lane changes. The vehicle was stopped near Kimballs Junction and the 18 year old driver was placed under arrest for reckless driving. A passenger was given permission to take the vehicle from the scene as the driver was transported to the jail. The Smoke House in Samak, where beef jerky is cured, caught on fire. Suspected cause of the blaze was a can of lighter fluid which may have caught on fire. An employee suffered bums on her arm while attempting to use the phone to call 91 1. No damage estimates were given. The driver of a vehicle caught speeding while doing 54 in a 25 mph zone was transported to the Summit County jail after the driver said he had left his license home and that the vehicle had been stolen and the registration hadn't been returned. The story proved to he a false one as a check ran by dispatch showed the driver had his license suspended due to three failure to appears --one from Salt Lake, one from Midvale and one from Summit County.
