(Sow Its old news to us, but everyone else finally seems to be realizing what we haw been dealing with for the past few years. Crickets arc everywhere and now that its moved down the hill into Elbcrta, the media seems to be pay ing attention. Lifetime resident Charlie Jameson was on the Today show this week talking about it and several newspapers have been interviewing local residents and taking pictures of our unwclcomcd guests. The crickets are worse this year than ever before and there is no end in sight. You can probably find crickets within a ten mile radius of our small town and it seems everyones at their wits end with how to control them. They was so thick last week that it looked like oil had been spilled on Main Street in front of Della Ncbckcrs house. There isnt much we can do but deal with the crickets and try to contain them the best we can. It seems that this week we are in between waves but who knows what next week will bring us. We are not alone in our fight for crickets. They are having problems with them in Nevada and Idaho not to mention the infestation in Goshen Canyon. Former residents, Mike and Peggy m vmrwre. mm ewems? Cartoon published by permission Pat Bagly and The Salt Lake Tribune Drusscl, came home to crickets crawiing up their door and garage in Elko, NV a couple of weeks ago and bait in Nevada seems to be less scarce than it year. The only thing we can hope for is that a new crop of seagulls emerge to overtake them like they did with the pioneers and that is not likely is here. to happen anytime soon. It seems that the crickets arc going to win for another The Sunday Tribune had a great cartoon about Mormon Crickets and it is reproduced here for all to enjoy and maybe add a note of levity to the problem. The editorial cartoon was drawn by Pat Baglcy, Tribune editorial cartoonist. Classes at Its been years since weve been able to drive through the cemetery entrance in the summer without seeing billions of crickets.
