His teacher is Ms. His parents arc Kirgin. Gerald and Morrison. Tammy The sixth grade students w ere very proud of the articles that appeared last week in the Reporter and submitted two more for this week. They also received two responses to their articles. They appreciated the readers responding to the articles because that is a big part of writing persuasive papers. They' arc hoping you will continue to enjoy their papers and continue to respond to them. Responses to Last Week's Papers would encourage people both out of town and in town to dump their garbage in the trash cans. Wc would also like to encourage the people of Eureka City to not only look at their own yards but the perimeters that border their property and take some extra steps to clean up trash and debris when they sec it lying around. It doesn't seem to be very difficult to take a sack and pick up the little piles of trash that right now It seem to be everywhere. ev eryone puts forth the effort to do that, it will eventually make a difference. We have enjoyed working with all of the children, the staff at the Eureka Elementary School, Tintic High School, and District Office; all of the room mothers, and all of the parents that volunteered their help at the various events throughout the past year. We would like to wish them lots of luck and hope that they can have as much fun as we did. Dear Ms. Lambert and Sixth Grade Students, First off we want to say we were very impressed with the articles that were written by sixth grade students and published in the Eureka Reporter. We agree that the citizens of Eureka have a challenge to get the trash cleaned up around town and an even greater challenge in keeping people from disposing of their trash by dumping it on the street in and around the town. We do sec other towns and cities that have a much neater appearance than Eureka, but we feel we choose to live here over any of those other places because we love Eureka and everything it stands for so much. Therefore, wc think that we need to stop littering and trashing our town and take steps whenever possible to keep people who arc driving through Eureka from throwing out their trash Karen Allinson, President LccAnn Wahlbcrg, Vice Pres. Shauna Jensen, Secretary Patricia Bigler, Treasurer Wc like the idea of making trash cans available on Main Street. Wc would hope this of Eureka Elementary and Tintic High School do have community' clean up day every' Spring and they' do a fantastic job in cleaning up the town. What is a disappointing is that just a couple of day after theyve clean up around town, people are already starting to dispose of trash on the street again. Wc know wc have a lot of people driving through town w ho throw' out trash, but wc also know many of the citizens that live here throw trash out on the streets as well. The clean up needs to begin right here in Eureka with the citizens who live here. If we all pitch in. it will make a noticeable difference that will make all of us much prouder of the city wc live in. Sincerely, John and Brenda Sutherland. read with delight the articles written by the sixth graders. Your observations and suggestions arc all very commendable. Favorite places to dump seems to be in the front of a bank, post office, schools, or stores. You arc right, w c all need to be aware of our effect on our birds, animals, water and the good earth in general. May be some posters would help to remind us. I agree w ith Savannah, it's alway s nice to have a place to get a cold drink or snack even on Sunday 's, but this is a decision proprietors need to make. Jcrik sports arc great, but 1 don't think our school is large enough for football. It's very expensive and the liability is great. Wrestling, wc'v c had in the past, when wc have had a teacher qualified and willing to take on the extra work. Wc have wonderful teachers all who wear more than one hat in order to give a diverse curriculum in our small schools. 1 would like to sec the student lake advantage of what is available to individuals like track and shot pul. Numerous trees arc being down cut daily, and our forests arc beginning to look bare. There arc over 100 products made from harvesting forest trees, one of which is the production of paper. These arc things wc need to start to think about. Wc need trees for a variety of reasons, they provide us with shade, provide shelter for domestic and wild animals, w hen used as wind breaks, they prevent soil erosion and conserve water, as well as produce food for us. Many products arc made from recy cled paper such as. grocery bags, greeting cards, paper, cardboard boxes, and insulation that is used in homes. In conclusion. I would like to challenge the school board of Tintic School District to come together and make a resolution for all its schools to rccy clo paper They ec ild contract with the paper recycling companies to provide us with recycling Si t Suai ss on Pam 4 |
