With our small budget, we probably would never have the capital to do the roof on our own. Thank you O.M.S. and thank you State Legislators! Proud to be an American Editor: In my ponderings about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, I have often wondered why some people born in the United States, or have become naturalized as citizens of this great nation, have a tendency to want to hyphenate their citizenship. Is it because they wish to draw attention to their heritage, if so why? It appears to me that any one born in the U.S. is a native American. If they choose to be naturalized Americans, then they are Americans by lawful process. Every American can tack on one or more countries denoting our ancestors. Even I can hyphenate four countries before I get to being an American. Even then I would probably be in the minority. The point of my letter is that I am of the opinion if every natural born or naturalized citizen would stop fussing with hyphens and just be proud Americans it may bring about more harmony, more unity, more brotherhood, and yes, even more peace in our neighborhoods. This would put us on a level with the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution where in it states, "All persons born or naturalized in the U.S. ... are citizens of the U.S. and of the State wherein they reside." and The Fifteenth Amendment, "The right of citizens of the U.S. to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the U.S. or any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude." and The Nineteenth Amendment, "The right of citizens of the U.S. to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the U.S. or by any State on account of sex." Those three Amendments place every native born or naturalized citizen on an equal basis. I choose to believe that plac To Buy, Sell or Trade Call Nancy at 433-693- 3 ing ancestral origins before our native or adopted country is divisive and is not conducive to the bonding that could come from claiming one country, America, as our own.
