The one thing that continues to impress me the most is that the way people treat others is the thing most people remember. True loving service to others is what I feel this season of the year is all about. Nut only now, but throughout the year. By giving away gifts of thoughtfulness we brighten not only someone else's day. but our own as well. As I was hanging ornaments on the tree one evening, I got lust in thought as I watched the grandchildren place them one by one. I didn't are only 16 more days before Christmas. Are you pre- pared? Do you have all the packages wrapped? Have you found and decorated that special tree? Is the cooking and baking all finished? If so, you are lots mure prepared than I am. There are so many things to y calendar for December began filling up in September with meetings, watching grandkids so Mom and Dad can get out to company parties, parties fur myself and spouse, and cleaning. decorating, etc. that there doesn't seem to he much time to shop. Our family has always had great holidays so I am not going to worry too much about it. I DO believe in Santa Gaus and he has shown himself to he pretty dam generous around our home. ' Along with a friend, Evelyn and sister Sharon, I attended the festival of The Trees at the Salt Palace. The myriad of lights, trees and decorations of all shapes and sizes, not to mention crafts, gingerbread houses and treats all combined to make fur a memorable evening. Mixed in with the beauty, smells and talent of those performing on stage was a poignant reminder of many people hoth old and young alike who had passed away. Out of the depths of sadness came something worthwhile as the money will go to help many children and families to cope with life threatening illnesses. As always the festival was a place where mixed emotions surfaced as there were several trees this year that were reminders of people I had associated with or who were from the County. I have really been impressed by a number of events that I have witnessed this season. During the deaths of several people I have known, I have watched people show love and do-m- Sheriffs lllolter I care which one went where, and when we did a craft project together (chains and Christmas trees) I was impressed with their individuality and fun qualities. The chains are now strung across the elk antlers in the living room and the trees are on the wall- - a reminder of our fun together. As with the ornaments everyone is different and makes the world a better place to live. What can we do to make this season special? Put others first. Give an umbrella to the paper delivery person, or perhaps greet them with a small token of appreciation. Write a note or card to someone and send it anonymously to someone listing some of their positive uualiliev that you admire about them. Instead of wrapping gifts fur an elderly person (parents or grandparents) who don't really need them, send a donation to a charity in their name, thank them for what they have meant in your life, or buy something for a needy person and let them (those you love) know what you did instead of buying something for them. Pick out a special ornament for a friend that reminds you of them. Choose a gift that reflects a fun f,iuf,ha,in0B i up A'o County. They continue to be discussed at die planning meetings with no clear solutions. Maintaining tire ruraj atmosphere of this area is always at the top of the list, as is including an afftrrdahle housing clement I hem is also great concern over protecting the view shed, the effect 5 golf courses will have on the quantity and quality of water, the effect of wildlife, such as deer and elk that now call that canyon home, fire, recreation, transportation. and the list goes on In his closing remarks. Planning Commission Chairman. Thomas Brown seid, I don't see anything Pivotal is giving that benefits the counter.... just taking care of Pivotal's need is no benefit There are primarily two benefits that may be derived from the Promontory development I ) a large increase in revenue (perhaps millions) for the county and 2) Promontory is not the Star Point, and would get the county out of sticky situation with Johnson International. Weighing the benefits against the concerns raises questions about the need for this project Commissioners, as well as citizens are struggling to understand the development and the effect will have on Summit the county County. Good planning takes time-tim- e doesn't seem have. Again, the consensus from public is -slow down, complete the necessary studies on environmental impact, etc., before getting kicked into anything. It would appear that the planning commission may be forced to make decision they don't want to and aren't ready to make Commissioner Blazzard said. We have been told we need this development, but I don't see a need for it. I guess it boils down to what we are going to have to have.
