Show m m The Summit County Bee June 25, 1999 B1 North Summit High Senior Grads of "1999 Enjoy Graduation Party an All Night Drug-Alcohol-Fr- ee For 13 years, the North Summit High School Senior classes have been enjoying their annual drug free alcohol graduation party. This year no exception. The "1999" School North Summit High Graduating Seniors enjoyed their party and was declared a huge success. Immediately after graduation, a dance was held that all high school students attended including the eighth graders. The eighth graders are so delighted to finally attend a high school dance. The cafeteria wu decorated with graduation memorabilia with purple and gold tablecloths and balloons. While the dance was going on, seniors may drift in and out to enjoy lots of pizza, veggies and fruits trays with delicious dips, a submarine sandwich of complements Blimpie's, nachos with cheese dip. The dance concluded at 12 a.m. and the underclassmen were asked to leave, so the senior patty could begin. They had numerous activities to chose from throughout the night. Sumo wrestling was back by popu-ldemand. What a.fun activity to participate in and also to watch. The students had tons of laughs and fun with this activity. The Velcro wall wu back and everyone had such a great time hying to stick to the walL The bungie run wu a very popular activity. Competing with cadi other to see who could make it the farthest wu a riot. For leu daring students, they enjoyed bouncing in the moon walk. Outside wu a new activity called space balls. When everyone all-nig- ht yr finally became acquainted with it and wu assured it would not make you nauseous, it turned out to be loads .of ftu. The blackjack tables were kept busy throughout the night also. They could redeem their tickets and cash them in for a lot of the donated items. In the auditorium wu another fun activity, the Karaoke Machine. A big thank you goes to the North Summit PTSA for helping with this activity. Each student had a disposable camera in their cooler, compliments of Fox Color Lab, they enjoyed taking pictures of each other. Finally, about 5 a.m., the drawing for the big prizes" began. It was exdting to see who wu going to win the microwave, stereo, color TV, VCR, telephones, entertainment center, boombox, Diskman, CD player, and many other donated Items. Everyone left the party carrying a cooler filled with various kinds of goodies. A jug of chocolate milk (compliments of Summit Valley Milk) wu offered to each senior they left the party. It takes a lot of volunteers to help organize and pull off this type of a patty. Many thanks to the chaperones that sacrificed their sleep to make sure all of these students had fun. A huge thank you to the high school staff, especially Principal u Carlson, Kathy Chappell, Tony North Wright, Steve Richins, Summit School lunchroom staff. North Summit Board of Education, and Superintendent Blonquist for all of their support. Thanks to the Summit County Sherm and Patrol for their watching care. Every year, the businesses of the North Summit area are asked to make a donation towards the party. It is through their generous donations and support the activity is held. The 1999 Graduating Seniors want each and every one of you to know their appreciation in supporting this party. The purpose of this graduation party is to make sure every student has the chance to make their graduation night a memorable experience and free from any type of accident. This wu held so that the officers could understand about the office which they hold. They each speech, that told gave a about their duties along with things out of the official manual. The night started out by setting up camp along with eating dinner. After all that we did some trap shooting with everyone joining. When it got dark, we started Miking about the N $ Westminster College Basketball Camp Scheduled agenda for the year. We have so fun activities many planned throughout the year. We then Miked about our speeches Andy (president) talked about how we can help to make this year fon and how to get more FFA and non-FFmembers involved with the A activities this year. Jennie (vice president) talked about the code of u an FFA offiethics and her duties cer. Ashlee (secretary) gave us the colors, along with the motto suting learning to do, doing to learn, living to serve. The teachers honored received a National Science Foundation grant of $7,500 to be used under the direction of the awardee over a five-yeperiod. Kay just relumed from an paid trip to Washington. DC where she received her award. She attended seminars and engaged in professional discussions with her peers. She also met with national legislators and education policy-maker- s. Kay received a selection of contribugifts from private-secttors to the program. Kay is a Springfield High School graduate of the class of 1976 and has taught for 14 years. This past year, The Oakley School has had the opportunity of having Kay teach math and help with other school related classes i.e. computer literacy A SAT preparation. Kay and her husband, Alex, are the parents of two children: Xander and Shenandoah. They currently live in Oakley, where they are both teaching at the Oakley School.
