Show The Summit County Bee May 28, 1999 North Summit Senior Citizens BY LOUISE WALLACE Iv bees fcelin kinda lazy lately and thought for a while that I wouldn't bother to write up the happenings at the Center thia week. Then 1 looked over my notea and decided 1 had better get on the stick. Firit of all, the officers and some of the board members from the three county chibs met at our center on Tiesday. Cordon Tkylor, our coordinator conducted. Then Ted Livingston from Mountainlands got up bright and early to come from Provo and meet with our group at 9 un. on Wednesday. Both Gordon and Tfcd would like to see morn seniors coming out and taking advantage of the programs offered them. The budget at Mountainlands has some funds available to pay a small salary or at least car expense to anyone that shares the belief that all retired (notice, I didnt say tired) people ought to be coining out to our centers. We believe that if they were personally invited they might attend once or twice. If they did that, we believe they would like it so well theyd be hooked for life. Anyone interested in doing this please contact one of our officers or Gordon. Betty Wilde, Chairman of the Board conducted the meeting mi President Wednesday. Shirley Phelps wu excused so she could go with her daughter, Carol to take her baby to a specialist The little guy wu born premature. Hes five months old now, gaining weight and doing good that way but he still isn't he ought to be. If feeling good there is a problem, they need to know what to do next so we hope everything works out just fine. Woodrow Nielson wu also excused. He had eye surgery mi Tuesday and had to go for his 24 hour checkup. Everything went well, his vision is improved and he wu back on the job on Friday. Next week he will have the other one taken care of. The band held a practice session on Wednesday and Friday, we were entertained by the North Summit Middle School Music Department under the direction of Mr. Wayne Miller. 1 will uy, they put on a very u u Summit County Fair Rodeo & Demo Derby reserved seat tickets go on sale through the mail starting June 1 , 1 999. Hope he is feeling leu sore from the fall he had last week. Luckily he didnt break any bones but he hu some tender spots. That fellow is not only smart but hes tough too. Thelma Crandall is feeling better and by the time the paper goes to press she should be back home. Now we hope everyone's aches and pains are very small ones or better yet, non --existent In the meantime, we all gotta mind our Ps and Q'a and do the doctors and our children tell us to do. Like eat your bran, drink your water, do you exercises and all that stuff Thats a pretty tall order Trina Mitchell is doing a fine job of filling in for LaRita but I have a feeling she will relinquish the job soon LaRita is well again. We served 70 meals in all. Wednesday we had taco salad, fruit, corn bread and for dessert we had ice cream sundics. Friday we dined on crab salad undwiches on croissants, potato salad and strawberry shortcake. Bet after reading thou menus, you all wish you had your lunches with us. You know we get older we increase in value. In fact, old folks are worth a fortune. They have silver in their hair, gold in their teeth, stones in their kidneys, lead in their feet and gas in their stomachs. All that plus we are antiques. u u u South Summit Senior Citizens wu BY CHERI BEAL given someone from Park City (maybe the other guy didnt realize the Columbia River doesn't flow all the way to our fair city and'is still Jnocing somewhere in Idaho). The other day 1 came home and checked the messages on the answering machine, all I could hear wu what seemed to be static to the tune of "Happy Birthday. Listening a little closer, I identified the sound of my Auntie May Lewis singing to me. When I uw her at Senior's I thanked her for the lovely song and told her it's always better to be late than never but my birthday wasn't for several more weeks. I then told her, "Better early than not at all and teasingiy asked, "What key did you sing in? I think I got a birthday swat after that comment and I probably deserved it! Reg Chapman told me he had a power outage the other day and called Utah Power and got someone in Portland, OR. Reg wu promised "they would take care of it and by 4 pjn. he wu getting a little concerned and called back. This time he u u Photo of The Week THE SUpl Appliance ,'rjy .Klsr.y - w u The washing machine is the workhorse of the appliance industry. Over the yean there have been some good ones made, and the design of them all is to be maintenance free. However, there are a few things that you can do to help keep your machine running for yean to come. 1. Make sure that the floor is solid and the leveling legs are snugged down properly. This will help to keep the machine from walking or vibrating . excessively in the spin cycle. 2. Change the fill hoses and gasket regularly, every 5 to 6 years or so. There is nothing worse than a hose that is broken and a flooded house. !$t r v l ; Thank you Betty and all thou who give service in a volunteer capacity, we appreciate you. As I wu leaving the Center a band of third graders came into the parking lot, a few of them that knew me called out "Hi in sweet, cheerful voices. One even had to show me the ladybug she had caught, I had seen there little guys all over town where ever I went and wondered why they had come to the Senior Center. Later, I redly discovered Mrs; Tana Crittenden had brought them to serenade the Seniors and I missed out on iL Thou who had lingered at Seniors told me they were both sur prised and delighted with the various songs the children sang and wish more had been there to enjoy-thangelic voices. I pondered this; evening how wonderful it would be' if we still became so excited about' the wondrous find of a ladybug. Thanks children for reminding us about the good things in life and how precious they are! A happy May birthday to Gordon Taylor, Beth Casper, Thelma Stevens, Donna Ottosen and myself. Sure hope your birthdays are special each of you is.
