North Summit needed a confidence boost with to begin the Region Tournament, but they were unable :to pull off a victory. Despite the I hustle and intensity that the Braves I played with, their offense struggled. I The boys traveled to Juab in ; hopes of getting revenge for a pre--I vious loss to the Wasps. As the Braves got off to a decent I start in the first quarter but let the I-- : ; Wasps outscore diem by 3. The second quarter proved to be costly for the Braves. Juab seemed to be High School iand Middle School 6. kept North Summit in the game. South Summit struggled from the floor as well but were able to outscore their rivals. An uneventful third quarter ted to an 8 point domination of the fourth quarter by the Wildcats. The Braves were forced to foul with time running out, and the Cats managed to knock down most of their free throws. The final score was Derek Fox led the 51-4- 0. Braves with 12 points. The Region Tournament will be played at North Summit on the twenty-sevent- h and 8th of February. All of the North Summit fans are encouraged to come out and support the Braves. If the Braves step up their play, they have a great chance to pull off some major upsets. Several students frill be participating ih the solo en- Teachers at North Summit Middle School attended a reading workshop presented by Bryan Bowles and Fenny Keller. It was for them to teach students how to use reading skills. Some of the reading strategies they talked about were: key words, choosing a theme, rereading, visualizing, putting it in your own wwds. dissecting it sentence structuring, looking for topic sentences, outlining, looking for context dues, and asking others. It is important to set a purpose before reading. Some of the biggest futon are having prior knowledge and interest We also . had Miss Utah, Mary McDonough, come and talk to the students. She talked about how tuud she had to work to get to be Miss Utah. She said that if you try hard enough, you can do anything. She also talked about violence, ' and how you shouldn't use violence to solve your problems. Some ways you can solve your problems are talk to the person your mad at, tell an adult, and walk away. She was a very good speaker, and we're sure that everyone teamed a lot. Reflections Contest Winners .The N.S. Elementary PTA is jproud to announce the winners of the annual Reflections Contest. The theme for this year was "Wouldn't it be Great if..." There were over. 200 entries in the elementary alone. North Summit put the Juab loss behind them in hopes of winning their last game of the season against South Summit The Senior Braves were honored before the game. Instead of coming out red hot and running up the score for their last home game, the Braves were offensively ice cold. They only sewed 13 points in the first half.
