Show q m m mi .1 wT mm-- State Honors Choir North Summit Plays We All But Loses Heart breaker It all came together for the North Summit Braves Wednesday, the eighth, when they played the Rich Rebels. They played an outstanding game, but a couple key mistakes proved to be the Braves downfall. The Braves lost by the score of 20-1- 3. The Rich Rebels came lout and scored two unanswered touchdowns in the first quarter. The Brave offense soon answered in the second quarter with a Pace to Bates touchdown pass. The Brave defense came back on and got the ball back with two minutes left before half-tim- e. The offensive team returned and marched the ball downfield. Mrs. Carlile, a parent who attended the Friday rehearsal, will attest to his charm and competence as will Mrs. Dixie Miller, music director from North Summit were unable to score, but they had the momentum. At half-tim-e the score was 14-- 7 in favor of the Rebels. The Braves played the second half like there was no tomorrow. The defense came alive and punished the .Rebel offense time after time. The offensive team put a number bf good drives together but were unable to score in the third quarter. The Braves finally got another touchdown in the fourth quarter with another Pace to Bates pass. The Braves were now down 3 with only two minutes left in the game. They decided to go for it all with a two-poiconversion. 14-1- nt Intensity in practice lead to intense game play for the Freshman Lady Braves as they took the court against the Rowland Hall Winged Lions on Sept. 7. The girls realized it was their last home game of the season, and they were ready to play. ' The first match went quickly, and the Lady Braves took the win in less than fifteen minutes. The second match started off well, as the Braves scored seven points to the Winged Lion's one. Then Rowland Hall made a comeback, passing up serves and The Senior girls were excited but also a little sad. The Braves got the ball back, but they failed to score, and time ran out. The Braves played an awesome game although they lost. The, Brave Seniors were honored before the game. The Braves now have two remaining games left. All they have to do is win one of them to get into the playoffs. They play Gunnison on Thursday the sixteenth and South Summit on Friday, the 24th. putting the ball away. Now the Lions were only down by two, but when the Braves got the ball back on a side-ou- t. Crystal Robinson served awesome giving the Braves back a substantial lead. Great defense and net play by the team lead them to the victory against Rowland Hall, improving their season record 1 1. They play their last match season of the against Grant ville on Tuesday, Oct. 14 and are looking to improve their record to 12-1. and their parents, the cheerleaders performed "Hail to the Varsity." The game started late, and things iy st didn't click for .t.heJBraves.j Rowland Hall got on top at the beginning. They scored eleven points, and the Braves couldn't stop them. The Lady Braves fought hard, and were able to give the Winged Lions a battle. The first game ended in the favor of the Winged lions 15 to 9. The second game was very disappointing to the fans, parents, coaches and players. The team knew they could have played better, and that's why it was such a depressing loss. Despite the efforts of the cheerleaders and fans to get the team up, llte Braves let the Winged Lions control the scoreboard. They beat the Lady Braves 15 to 2. This will drop the Lady Braves region ranking to third place. The Braves will take the loss as a learning experience, and use it to their advantage. Their last two region games of the 1997 season will be played on Oct. 14 and 16. The Lady Braves have worked hard all season, and hope their ef- forts will pay off as they enter Region and Suite Tournaments. The meet ' was run on Oct 7. The Braves team score was 78 points and third place. Shane Hilton helped them a lot by running the 3 miles in 17:34 taking first place. All the rest of the team Jed Casper, Steven Dent, John Fellows and John Kunkel placed within the top twenty five. Mindy Hilton took 15th place and Valerie Snyder represented the girls well taking 15th and 16th place. reoFiJfe stamp tOPUL Ruined The freshmfcn Braves did a great job against the Rich Rebels on Tuesday, Oct. 7. In the' cold weather, the freshmen gave it their all to pull off a great win. Their defense was excellent, and the offense ran like a well oiled machine," says Coach Bayles. They pulled off a great victory with a score of 24 to 39. JV Football Falls Short To Rich ih ill , Hhltilii. t Traveling to Rich is a long trip to lake, even though a tight game lies at stake. Oct. 7, the JV Braves boarded the bus to take what seemed like a trip across the country to Rich County to play football. They arrived pumped for a totally awesome game against the Rebels. The game got off to a rough start for the Braves in which the Rebels started off with two touchdowns in a row. Braves finally got it together after halftime when Clint Peterson ran for the touchdown. Braves came close to tying up the game with a block punt by Kevin Clark, but they just couldn't slam the ball into the end zone. Kyler Ovaid had an exceptionally good game, taking down the quar- terback and sending him out of the game. The final score was 16-- 8 with the Rebels beating the Braves in a quote, "Heartbreaker". , Win Worth Remembering I And.. .the JV Lady Braves win! If there was an announcer at the volleyball game on Oct. 7, this i what he would have said. The landed a victory on their last; home game.
