Show SAD DEATH OF ARTHUR MORLEY electrocuted while in bath tub last friday night impressive funeral on sunday arthur morley son of mr ir and mrs j joseph oseph morley well known residents of this city was found dead in one of the bath rooms of his father s barber shop about eight 0 clock last satur dav morning the young man had undoubtedly been electrocuted nv while hile trying to use an electric massage ma chine aa As near aa as can be leaned the young man who is 21 years of age and a barber by trade entered the shop at about 10 0 clock last friday even nig he was not feeling very well and informed harry darton darton an asso cute crite that he intended to take a bath before going home he evident ly went into the bath room and at cached the electric massage machine to the electric light socket immedi abely over the tub after undressing and getting into the water he must have turned on the current and tried to use the machine when the boy s father entered the s iop at about 8 0 clock saturday morning he heard the water running in one of the bath tubs and started to investigate the bath room door was closed and locked and when he se cured a chair and looked over the partition the horrible nearly drove him mad the boy waa was stretched ched out in the bath tub his body badly burned about the neck and face and the hands still clutched the massage machine fhe the light above was still burning show shor ing that the electric current had been pouring through the young man mans s body all night long almot cooking the flesh upon the neck and hands mr morley rushed out upon main street and called for help and within a few minutes the boy s body was taken from the bath tub the limbs were badly drawn and stiff showing that death had resulted several horns previous the wires which furnish the current for lights on an main street carry but volts according to H 0 doncarlos DonO arlos of the eureka electric co had it r not been for the fact that the young man was standing in the water this voltage never could have billed killed him A As s it was the water grounded the cur re rent nt and he was unable to release his hiss hold upon the massage instrument 1 arthur morley had just passed his birthday he was an exception ally bright young man and the sym path pathy of the ent entice ne community goes out to the parents in their sorrow THE FUNERAL the remains of arthur morley were laid to rest in the eureka city aeme tery on sunday seldom has such universal grief and sympathy been shown as on this occa sion the fraternal order of eagles I 1 of which deceased was a member took charge of the obsequies at 1 30 pin p m the aerie formed in line at the elks hall marched to the home of deceased and escorted the remains to the pavilion where the ceremonies were conducted past worthy pres ident james gatley officiated in the absence of worthy president S J schneiter and H J beane acted as the aerie s chaplain instead of J J matthews matthew the bev rev 0 C stillman delivered an eloquent address his text bin b bing in M ye are all members one of another the pavil on was filled with sampa frien frenis Is of the family of the young man and the members of the eagles stood in the rear of the audi corium there were many beautiful floral offerings and when the audi ence passed by the remains in review the great number numb r of tear i if faces aces bore testimony to the fact that the vast congregation had bad not gathered in mere idle curiosity but that their object was purely sym sympatric and out of regail legai d to arthur morley and to his parents and sisters in the same orderly and impressive mamer mainer ma mer iner in which the procession had moved towards the pavilion the funeral cortege made its journey to ward the cemetery the eagles lead I 1 ing ng in full regalia followed bi the h hearse arse ond ind pall beakers and relatives and friends of the deceased at the cemetery the few but beautiful and impressive words of the eagles burial service were repeated and the re mains placed in their final hebting place f ahe he pall bearers were harry dar ton joa jos treloar jr jf chas alkire joh job i kehoe frank I 1 and wm win gear the singing of the choir w was a s e ex ceedie cee ay good and mail mern members b er of f the fa F U 0 b h have made expressions of appreciation for their kind co oper atlon |
