Show i Friday, Octobar 27, 199S School News Lqdycats First Game The South Summit Ladyc&t Volleyball Team has had a very successful season. Their record going into the Region tournament held on Oct 20, was 1 1 wins with only one loss. This allowed them to enter the tournament in first place. The tournament took place in Juab. The Ladycats traveled there to play the Millard Eagles. The gam started at an early 10:00 in the morning. Upon entering the gym, you could feel the heat of the Ladycats. The Ladycats earned the first few points and there was nothing Millard could do. South Summit played with great intensity even though they got a large lead in the beginning. Sondi Mitchell and Julie Blazzard were pounding down every at Region one of Brittani Gordon's impressive sets. When the ball did come back on outside, Shaley Holman was there to get it up. The first game aided with a score of 15--7. In the second game, the Ladycats kept their momentum. They played very well and put on a great show for their many devoted supporters. 9. Wildcats End The Season Riding into the last game of the season, the Wildcats were determined to end with a win. Wildcat fans were brought to tears as the "Star Spangled Banner" was proudly 3. The Swim Team Triumphs Over Dixie The South Summit Swim Team traveled to St George on Saturday, Oct. 21, to take on the Dixie Flyers. The Wildcat boys' swim team defeated the Flyers in overall D.J. Glade picked points, 409-28win in the SO free; first a placed up Jason Scates took first in the 100 free, and the 400 free relay team got the first glace win with Greg Atkinson, Jason Scates, Bryan Haakenson, and D.J. Glade. Also competing at the meet were Pineview and Snow Canyon but Positive Alternatives Summit 0, J were easily defeated by the boys. The girls' swim team put up a good fight but didn't quite come out on top against Dixie. .They did, however, defeat Snow Canyon in overall points. Amanda Walker picked up the first place win in the 200 free, and the girls 400 free relay team easily came in with the first place win. In that relay was Amanda Walker, Eden Davis, Alisha Dewey, and Maleia Littledike. Good job to all of the time, our Fauvines were invited to dance for the Grantsville crowd. They performed their "kick" routine and did an excellent job. As the team came roaring back on the field, the Wildcats were ready to fight for the win. Even though the Wildcats were defeated in the end, they gave it their best shot! The game ended in a 28-- 0 win for the Cowboys. Ben Harris played an excellent game even though he was sick! Thanks, Ben, for the effort and school spirit. Thanks to all the fans that came and supported 7k Red Ribbon Week: Sourh sung by the oldest surviving Cowboy player. Tha Summit County Boo Positive activities were the major focus South Summit Schools chose to emphasize during the annual "Ribbon Week" celebration. The goal of Ribbon Week is to promote safe, healthy communities, through prevention of substance abuse and violence. Numerous activities occurred in and outside of the classroom such as "Withdrawal Day" which emphasized healthy licking as candy and soda machines were turned off for the day. This allowed students to evaluate their lifestyle. Red ribbons appeared on buses and vehicle antenna to show support and "Sack Art" will be showing up in your local stores. Adolescent tobacco use is on the increase again, so South ity. They left the school at 6 p.m. for Provo. When they got there, everyone was scared before they even went in. They waited forever to go in, but it was finally time. As they entered they were petrified. Mrs. Wonders. The Haunted House On Monday, Oct. 23, the South Summit FBLA students visited the March of Dimes Haunted House in Provo for their first official activ- II Wvks Wilde, our advisor, was too scared to enter so she decided to stay back. As they traveled through the terrify- ing building, everyone had their screams. After about Fifteen minutes, people came out relieved that it was over. We wore camouflage and orange. We hunted down bugs we got by the creek sand got our feet wet It was a lot of fun! We climbed trees. The reason we did this is to get ideas for English. Then we walked back and ate frozen treats. We put our bugs in a bug corral. |
