Show BA Thn Summit County Boo Friday, Octobor 22, 1993 New Faces in School South Summit Hunting Changes Wildcats by Brandon Johnson The Utah Division of Wildlife has made several major changes in the deer and elk hunts. This year hunters must pick their weapon prior to buying their permits. In previous years, hunters were allowed to use all three weapons: the bow, rifle, and black powder muzzle loader on each of the hunts both deer and elk if their tag hadnt South Summit vs. Manti by C.T. Mcrklcy It was the last Region game to be played on die Cats home field. It seemed that the crowd was ready for the worst weather. It didnt rain. It didnt snow. It was freezing add! Everyone was wrapped up in coats and blankets. It looked like every- one was out camping on the bleachers. The South Summit seniors were recognized at this game. The efforts they put forth will be missed next year, but all the luck to the boys! Richie Bridge was not playing due to an injury. The Cats worked hard during the first quarter, but were unable to score. The Templars managed to get by the Cats for six. The .Templars were unable to make the PAT due to a poor kicking exhibition. South The Cats were back during the second quarter saving an additional seven points; however, Manti also scored seven more. The sane at die end of the second quarter was 19-1- brought out the best in the Emerald Wave and the Fauvines. They each performed one number and did a good job. The cheerleaders performed the school song and put the crowd in a good mood. Third quarter showed no difference in score for either team though there were several good days from both sides. Not much yardage gained for anyone anywhere. Fourth quarter was almost a reei- scoring for the Cats. Manti s scoring again brought the first quarto' to an end. Both teams played hard and they played rough. JV Football Team Beats Manti By One Point by Amber Walker The South Summit Wildcats beat the Manti Templars in an intense game, with a save of 27 to 26. All the points scored by the Cats woe in the second half. This is one reason why die game was so . intense. Landon Lances point after the touchdown was the winning point for the Cats. He also kicked a punt that touched down on the one yard line. Jason Leavitt and Cooper Crystal both scored touchdowns. Karl Stevens intercepted the ball and ran bade for a touchdown, also. The Wildcats also scored a safety. Overall, this was a real good performance by both the offense and the defense. Good job JV Cats. South Summits studentbody has increased this year. Since the school year has started, there have been several new people transfer to South Summit Many of these new students come from different places around Experiencing Life From Different View wonderful experience. Later in the afternoon, the classes all went to the Utah State Development Center in American Fork. Mr. Draper is a former employee of the USDC. He worked therefor 1 1 years and then went on a by Tanya Woolstcnhulmc and Gina Burton South Summit Ladycats took fourth place in the Region 12 gans and Red everywhere. Next week begins the fifth annual campaign to reduce drug activity. All across the country people will be either wearing or displaying red. So why red? Red has been chosen to show that we are unified and comstate. mitted to having a drug-fre- e Next you may ask, why should I become involved in this campaign? The answer is simple. We become involved because we know that drag use causes more than just die loss of individual potential. With drug use, vandalism and violence also increase and it ends up affecting us all. This year see how you can become more involved. Start by talking with your family. See what they know and bow they feel about techniques are used. Afterwards, students traveled to the State Mental Hospital in Provo. They drove around and took a tour of the grounds. The State Mental Hospital works with adults and young people who have mental disorders such as psychosis and schizophrenia. Each individual who attended was able to grow and learn from this experience. The students who attended would like to thank Mr. Draper and Mr. Hayes for the opportunity of attending. Mr. Draper and Mr. Hayes would like to express their thanks to the students who went and let them know that they are proud of them and appreciate their efforts. the drug problem. Chances are they know more than you do since each grade at school has specially designed lessons on the topic. IS, Mr. Hayes and Mr. Draper gave their psychology classes the opportunity to see life from a different view. That morning, those who volunteered to go went to the Dan Peterson School for the Physically and Mentally Handicapped in American Fork. Each student who went had the opportunity to go into one of the classrooms and work with the handicapped students inside for a couple of hours. Some even had the opportunity of helping these students accomplish things such as walking or eating their lunch. All-St- ar 29-3- The Ladycats Fight For Victory by Allison Atkinson nd Aletha Robinson On Wednesday, Oct 12, the Ladycats of South Summit traveled to Morgan to take on the Lady Trojans in a volleyball game. This game was very important to both teams. The winner of this game would go into Region in the first ranked slot in the Region 12 Volleyball Tournament. Region will be taking place in Fillmore on OcL 15 and 16. The Ladycats took all three teams to play in Morgan, but only the Varsity Team will be going on to the Region Tournament. The freshmen volleyball team started off the night. Before the game began, the team showed intense spirit said were ready to play. The freshmen team fought hard, but came up short, by losing the first game 10 to 15. They also lost their second game, 15 to 2. The JV Team always seems to give the spectators the kind of ut 25-2- 9: balance beams attached at the corners by logs. It wasnt very easy for the students to keep balance. The students then split into two went to do Trust groups. One-ha- lf Falls and die other half wait to the Sand. In the Sand Pit, the group had to get the entire team across without touching the sand. The Sand Pit had wooden beams across the pit They only had a mountain climbing rope, a pulley with a rope attached, two wooden platforms, and their own ingenuity. Trust Falls consist of seven people on the ground giving support to the person on the log. They reassure the person and then fee person kids their arms and legs and fall backward into the sevens arms. The last part of the task course was The Wall. The whole day went by fast for the students. Most of the students were exhausted by the end, but they kept up the pace. Lucky for them they dont have to do this every day. Close Up Dance . School Lunch Menu School lunch for the South Summit School District for Red Ribbon Week of OcL Monday: Spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, cake with cherry sauce, and milk. Tuesday: Chili, bread sticks, carrot and celery sticks, doughnut, milk, and salad bar. Wednesday: Pizza, com, red split into groups of five and blindfolded. Then they went through out the orchard feeling along a rope. Whenever they hit a wooden bead, they knew they were on the right track. Student Log Walk. They had to fit all of the students on a series of football game to 1 1:45 pm. The dance came off with flying colors. The music was great, and all who showed up had an enjoyable night dancing and having a great time. South Summit High would like to thank everyone who came to help support Close Up and hope you had a great time at the dance last Friday night. Booster Club News Their hope is that residents will join in the effort when they see how die dub has been helping with the athletic program and other projects to not jonly help the school, but also the community as well. The Booster Dub believes that the more parent involvement with the student's activities, the better die school will be. The dub will be operating a concession stand during fee upcoming basketball and wrestling seasons. Volunteers for the food committee are needed and anyone who would be Interested in helping should contact Brent Bridge. |
