The Resolution states that a Historical Society could "preserve the historical records of Summit County to better perpetuate the economic and social heritage of this county and those political and social institutions upon which the county is established," and that "historical record of Summit County can best be identified, preserved, and perpetuated through establishment of a committee therefore subject to the supervision and authority of the Board of County Commissioners of Summit County, Utah." Hie Duties of the committee are defined as "research, assemble, preserve, and disseminate material and information relevant to the social, cultural, economic, and religious history of Summit County." The funding may be "funded by public revenue of Summit County, Utah. Additionally, the committee may accept contributions and gifts from the general public." There are to be nine trustees appointed by the county commission with one commissioner on the The South Summit Planning Commission held their regular meeting at the Bum's Fire Station in Park City. A work session started at 6:20 p.m. It was noted that it was Bruce Parker's first meeting as the new planning director. He is replacing Jim Peterson. Leslie Bums is now the assistant director. Carl Hjelm is also new mi the staff. He is on a work internship. Discussion involved revisions to the Snyderville Basin Development Code, particularly Chapters 2, 3 and 7. Chapter 3 Filter system was discussed in detail. The planning commission would like to change the current proposal system. It seems to take a lot of the commissions time for a proposal to currently work through the system. The commission would like to streamline the process so a proposal first will go through their staff to work out the bugs, make sure code is being adhered to, and finalize paperwork. Then a proposal would come to the commission after all the bugs are worked out for approval or denial or a revision. Proposals could be ruled on quicker if .the filter system were streamlined. Discussion also included whether or not the Snyderville Code should be enlarged to include the rest of the county. Perhaps if it is good for the Basin, it may be good for the rest of the county and visa-vers-a. Currently, the commission has to be expert in two different codes, and they are looking at merging the two. Growth issues will be the same through the whole county in the future. Nothing was decided on these issues since this was just a " discussion session. ' The regular session had a proposal for an Arby's Restaurant to be ruled upon. The restaurant was to1 be located in front of the existing Texaco gas station across from bottleneck. Gene Darcey , garbage contract r, also petitioned the commission i'.r Conditional Use Permit to sure garbage dumpsters in an empty sot in Wanship. The kit is located on the big coiner in Wanship. Residents were very much against the proposal. The petition was denied The planning commission also extended the deadline for applications for a position on the planning board for another week. They had received three applications as of iKs McDonald's. The request was denied meeting. because of traffic and congestion problems. Deadline For Applications For The Planning , The Commission Vacancy Extended Summit County Commissioners have recently been running in The Summit County Bee and The Park Record, a legal noting the vacancy on the Summit County Planning Commission originally held by Del Ray Hatch, of Oakley. The deadline for accepting applications has been extended to Oct. 11, 1991. Residents of Summit County must send a letter of interest and intent to Bruce Parker, Coalville, UT 84017. This is not a voted position but an appointed position by the commissioners. The planning commission's purpose is to guide and direct growth and change in Summit County. Currently llic county is divided into three districts. North Sum- mit with two representatives; Park City with two representa tives, and now South Summit has one representative leaving one position open. However, the legal states that the position is open to all interested people in Summit County. South Summit lost their commission representative in the last election to Park City and will surely lose this planning commission position if the commissioners do not receive applicants from South Summit. If the Kamas Valley docs not have someone from that area appointed, someone else will have majority vote in making decision which will effect growth and expansion of die entire county. The Bee encourages residents of the Kamas Valley to not let this position slip through their fingers, but lake an interest in county government and apply for this position. |
