| Show DISASTER AVERTED BY DOG railway ailway bridge Is saved from fire by wise canine boulder col furiously barking un til it had attracted attention a dog belonging to robert wallace of 0 mar saved the colorado and southern bridge from destruction by fire and I 1 averted a possible disaster in 1902 the same bridge was badly damaged by fire just before a train was due and the same dog called attention to the fire by howling and a serious ac aident to the train was prevented the railroad officials presented the animal with a fine collar at the time the dog was heard barking and an investigation showed that the bridge was in flames A freight train had passed over it a few minutes before and hot coals from the firebox set the timbers ablaze the station agent at marshall was notified while mrs wallace and her little girl car ried water from the creek and succeeded in extinguishing the flames but for the vigilance ot of the dog the strong wind would have tanned fanned the flames into a blaze of serious proportions |
