Mr. Griggs is a retired teacher and knows the value of volunteers in school. He says it is fun to read with the children and especially enjoys seeing them progress. Mrs. Griggs feels that children have so many diversions at home and some parents are so busy they have little time to help their children read, so she is glad she is able to help in this way. Laird, 24, Eureka, was approved by the Nephi City Council, following a series of interviews with all candidates, as the newest full time police officer for Nephi City. Laird has been working part time as a police officer but was e member appointed as a of the force when he applied for the job a few weeks ago. "He has a strong educational " background, said Chad Bowles, police chief. Laird graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree, in Police Science, from Weber State University June 1998. He has also attended Utah Valley State College. While he was attending Weber State. Laird worked in the Region Four Department of Adult Probation and Parole. He has also worked as an assistant to the geologist in the mining industry in the Eureka area. He has been a member of the Juab County Search and Rescue team for the past several years. He is an intermediate emergency medical technician (EMT) and is a instructor.
