It is the hope and purpose of Mr. Knight to tap this vast field of riches with the drain tunnel. ng Fast Pickup & Delivery PARENTSI your goal is to raise happy, well adjusted children with sound values and successful characteristics; such as honesty, responsibility and a good work ethic to name a few, you will love how our product can assist you. Published in the Eureka Reporter July 31 and August 7, 1998. SLC The tunnel section is 8x8 feet and, until recently, it has been necessary to timber, the timbers used being the best of red pine ail from our own properties and the framing is of the very high- est grade of workmanship. At present, however, the material is as to make timbering un- neccssaty and a much more rapid rale of progress is thereby being made. The concrct dram ditch is being carried forward wilh the tunnel. The driving from thc east, or Goshen valley end, and at thc portal an excellent camp wilh substantial buildings has been established. The camp is located about six miles south of Elbcrta, which is on the main Tintic road and on the Tintic branch of thc D. & R.G. At the proper time it will be a simple matter to secure an easy gradient for the railroad from this point to thc mouth of the tunnel. At present a good wagon t road answers our needs. To those who are interested in driving of the drain tunnel from an engineering viewpoint, the thought may have occurred that in the driving of a tunnel of nearly six miles in length a number of interesting problems must arise. A study of the profile will show that the sinking of shafts for construction purposes is hardly practical, so that virtually the entire length must be driven from the east portal on Goshen slope and all material must be transported to that end. This will, of course, necessitate electric haulage after a short time. The delivery of an adequate supply of fresh air at the face when a great distance has been reached may present some diffi- cultics; certain methods have been considered but not as yet have any of these been definitely decided upon. However, when the condition arises it will be properly met and cared for. Should water in great quantities be encountered it might be found necessary to carry forward bulkhead doors, but at this time such a condition is not contemplated, since the existence of subterranean pockets of large dimensions could be the only possible cause for such precautions. The levels have been carefully checked and will be checked in duri thc coming sumnBr ,fwhidl rmancnt c ccrtain monumCnis for thc carrying of the alignmcnl win be esuib-suc- h these the line will jstlcd projcclKf moss Goshen valler a concrae raonumcnt , ,fcre for a backsile. After such time, electrical back sights will be relied upon. Concrete hubs with lead markers are being set at every one thousand-foo- t station and these are also being used as permanent bench marks. Viewed from all angles, the Tintic Drain Tunnel is one of the interesting engineering problems as well as one of the greatest mining undertakings of this decade.
