Pageant is successful by Ida Donaldson A total of 114,000 attended the Mormon people Miracle Pageant during its eight-da- y production that ended July 18. The second Saturday night had the largest, attendance, MANTI-- - 22,000. The only sign of the crowd is swaths of dry grass below the crest of Temple Hill where visitors were seated during the production. The 10,000 folding chairs have been put away, lighting towers have been dismantled and 300 costumes have been cleaned and put back in storage. About 11,800 dinners of barbecued turkey and roast beef were served in the two LDS Church buildings in Manti, in addition to 13,000 hamburgers and 14,400 cans of pop sold at food booths. Money from food sales helps support the pageant. Improvements at the pageant this year included new costumes and stage sets. A completely new tape was made in stereophonic sound, containing all of the original script, but compressed into a shorter time so the pageant did not last as long as in previous years. Another addition were three paintings which appeared on the hill: the center one of Jesus Christ, one of the world, and one showing North and South America. People attended the pageant from virtually every state in the United States and from Canada, Asia, Europe, South Africa, South America, Central America and Russia. Youth groups and families were among the crowds. During the Middle Ages, the year began at various dates in different times and places. In England it was not until 17S1 that January was restored to its place as first month, as it had been during the Roman era. Baron Dominique Jean Larrey, Napoleons personal surgeon, designed the first ambulance in 1792, and used it in Napoleons Italian campaign, 1796-- 7.
