Show met death in greeley shaft edwin W nelson struck by crosshead cross head fell a distance of 80 feet edwin W N elson one of the most prominent residents of eureka was in scantly killed in the shaft of the greely mining company s property in north gintic tintic one week ago today air nelson and his brother al nelson were the principal owners in this corn pan and chev were at work sinking a shaft for the purpose of developing the ground which is but a few miles to the the north of E ireka T he property is equipped with a wh m in i on friday after eating inich mr Nelso naste into the shaft which is nearly feet deep his listher al nelson remaining above to handle the whim fastened last ened to the roje upon which the bucket ia lowered 14 a wooden cross head which slides along upon he guides of the shaft and keeps the bucket in proper position when with in about eighty feet from the botton of I 1 the shaft this cross head is thought to have caught in the shaft allowing the bucket to pass on w aitho it it and a I 1 few seconds later when it became loose it tell striking mr nelson upon the head this caused him to fall to the bottom of the shaft his brother went down the ladder and found him in a dying condition and then being unable to take him out of the mine he rode to the Farra gant property two miles distant for help while some of the employees of the farragut barr agut company returned with mr came on to bureda for a physician fhe body v as brought to eureka that night edwin W nelson was born in sv P den on november 1861 being in his forty fifth year at the time of his death he to america in and a couple of later realizing the wonderful opportunities in the west he settled in montina and secured employment in a plant mr nelson followed mil work for about ten years in montana and idaho and for a number of year ww in the employ of the drum co an english syndicate george H robinson the well known mining engi neer who died recently was at that time consulting engineer for the same company and in 1894 after mr dobinson Eo binson had the construction of the mammoth mill at dobinson Eo binson he sent for mr nelson who came to gintic and worked at this null A year later mr nelson came to eu reka and assisted in installing the machinery at the eureka hill mill and was in the company a employ for several years he has lived here al I 1 most continuously since that time hav ing been married to miss lizie on august 1896 he was of a genial disposition a man whose friends were legion his death was a ad blow to the family and friends an d in fact the entire community funeral sen ices were conducted at the aamli residence on bunday after i oon under the direction of the knights ot pythias of which order the deceased was a member the follow ing morning the body was shipped to salt lake and at 1 p on that date a second funeral service was conducted at the 0 donnell funeral chappel by badberg of the Lutheran church the remains w ere in the mt olivet cemetery |
