Another 8 inches were dumped atop already existing snow piles. Eurekans feel like that's "enough already"! We are ready for Spring! ! EMT's do great service cies; take two written and practical by Nick Castleton have talked to several area residents over the past few months, it has occurred to me that many members of the community do not realize the amount of time and effort put in by a small, but very dedicated group of individuals who supply emergency medical services to our area. In an effort to inform readers of the EUREKA REPORTER. I have put together a few facts. The E.M.T.s in Eureka, during the past year, volunteered over 38,000 hours just to be certain that a qualified crew was ready to respond to any medical emergency. This averages more than 3,500 hours per E.M.T. In addition, each E.M.T. was required to obtain 48 hours of continuing education; take a comprehensive written test on a very broad range of medical emergen- As I MW M C.P.R. (cardiopulmonary and prove they resuscitation) tests; know how to use this knowledge through a lengthy practical test; all this every two years. The practical test alone takes approximately five hours to complete. E.M.T.s from Eureka have traveled to Kanab, Salt Lake City, Richfield, Ephraim, Nephi, Grantsville, Delta and Logan to be trained and tested. The E.M.T. Local E.M.T.s are not paid for any of this time. In fact, when the issue was brought up recently and pay was offered, they refused. Not that most of them couldn't use a little extra cash, but because they felt the are E.MT.s of what financial burden would be placed on example of. capable performing a voluntary service, which they enjoy. There has been, however, a lot of public comment recently about the Emergency Medical Technicians and the service and not is they provide, favorable.
