At our request, Lois submitted the following history of the life of Jack Andrew, which I know my readers and his many friends will enjoy: John Andrew was bom July 28, 1895 in Paxton township, near Redwood Falls, Minnesota. He was raised on a farm where he worked hard. He didnt care for farmwork so obtained a job at the age of 12 in a drugstore where he washed bottles and ran errands. Later he was promoted to salesman. After high school he borrowed $100 dollars from his grandfather and with his own savings was able to attend Highland Park College of Pharmacy in Des manage the Walgreen Drugstore. Later, when Walgreens sold their small stores, he purchased the store and has operated it until Sptember of 1984. John has received several awards from Rexall Drug Co. for outstanding service to the community. He has been burglarized 20 times over the years but was not discouraged. He has always been especially kind to the elderly people, delivering medicine many times when he didnt feel well himself During his younger life he was active in the American Legion and Kiwanis Club, on the board of directors for the Nephi hospital and a city councilman in Eureka. He worked with the Cancer Society and Red Cross. He has always been a Moines, Iowa. He met Henry Davis at pharmacy school (he later became his brother-in-lawHenry was from Malad, Idaho and talked John into going to Malad to work with Henry in his ). brothers drugstore. Soon after arriving in Malad, Idaho, John met Emily Thomas, a beautiful brown eyed, dark haired girl. Their courtship was interrupted by World War I. He was assigned to the medical unit attached to the mounted Military Police. He was first sent to Angel Island in San Francisco Bay then transferred to Camp Fremont on the campus of Stanford University at Menlo Park. Emily came to California to attend summer school at Berkley but instead they were married July 5, 1918 in Redwood City, Calif. Several months later John was transferred to New York and stationed at Camp Mills and Emily returned to Idaho to teach school. John embarked for France but part way there the armistice was signed and the ship returned to the U.S. He was discharged from the army and returned to Malad to work again in the Davis Drugstore. John was baptized into the L.D.S. church in 1920 in Malad. He moved to Tremonton, Utah to work, where Betty was born; then to Jerome, Idaho for 4'z years where Lois was born; then back to Malad where he started his own drugstore at which time Jennie was born.
