Show Health Tips HEALTHIER BABIES BEING BORN TODAY - Babies ate bigger and healthier than a decade ago based on a study of reported birth weights in 38 states, USA Today reported. The study, carried in A' recent issue of die Journal of the American Medical Association, found that babies born in 1980 weighed 2.1 ounces more than those born in 1970. In addition, ihere was a 20 percent decline during the 10 years in the number of newborns weighing less than 5.5 pounds. Dr. Samuel Kessel, of die National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, who conducted die study, attributed the trend to better prenatal care, better eating and health habits of pregnant women, and a drop in the number of women who smoke during full-ter- m pregnancy. STUDY SHOWS WOMEN LIVE LONGER BUT NOT NECESSARILY HEALTHIER Mens health is better for a larger percentage of their life although women live longer, according to a study that focused on the quality of life rather than longevity, says a report in the NEW YORK TIMES. The report also found that poor people have the longest period of low quality health before they die. The report concludes that women spend more time physically dependent on others because they live longer and endured the infirmities of old age longer. PHONY MEDICAL DEGREES BY BEING TRACKED AUTHORITIES Federal and state authorities have begun widespread investigations into the validity of medical credentials, according to a NEW YORK TIMES report. The investigations are the outcome of the U.S. Postal Services discovery of extensive trafficking in fraudulent - medical credentials, originating primarily in Caribbean medical schools.
