Show BUIS AND GIRLS CLUB WORK the passing of the calendar year l rings to a close many activities and calls for reports from various sources the past year has been an eventful one in many educational and industrial activities the school the home and the church have all done much for the boys and girls anthe n the way ing them tor for lifes altes work each ot of these three institutions has haa its special function to perform in this work and they each bear a definite and direct relationship forrish ip to the other in giving the boy and nd girl the best possible training tri to equip them mot for or lifes work and to make ot of them the best cit izean tor for state and nation I 1 want to speak somewhat oi ot a cv c v lain ti in line of work which has been introduced trod into the schools of a practical and industrial nature it is the purpose and function of this work to give ito to th tha boys and girls girla ot of the upper grades practical training which will enable them to meet and solve many of the daily problems of home and farm life it if we are to elevate the standard we certainly must do it thru our power to find a 61 practical solution to the problems which are constant constantly ay confronting us society has become so extremely complex that wo we contend that brays and girls the I 1 men and women or lof tomorrow must possess more skill in n the preparation of their lifes work in order to fit smoothly into society and not leave any rough edges on their train training ingi to take althe I 1 well rounded and finished life during the past year tuch a campaign has been conducted thru the schools ol of this county thru the courses in ill nature stud study y and as agriculture ri culture and under I 1 club work movement various pro I ibets of work wern introduced which boys and girls became interested in in some of these projects the work I 1 j was followed up aud and some excellent i results obtained but in many cases the boys and girls became slack in ili their efforts and asa consequence the desired results were riot not obtained par far too few avail themselves of the opportunities tuni ties afforded them by coming coining in contact with this industrial work we must set bet out with a fixed determination tor for a higher standard ot of efficiency in this work y anve e must seek a stronger aid closer cooperation ot of home and school parent and child in order to obtain the best results resul tg the boys and girls girl themselves must be converted to the value and importance of following their work up to a finishing point in order for or them to obtain from it the best practical and educational value valued we can best help the boys and the girls by helping them to help themselves the big thing we are after in in this work is to establish independence and initiative power in the life of the boy and girl there is no work that will so truly help the boy and girl to help themselves as this industrial work known as the club work amov movement contact with tills this work will increase the earning power ot of the boy or girl rl help him to systematize his uk J work and economize his time give him detailed acco account ot of the cost ot of prodoc lon lion show him the way to control and make use of the too often waste pio ducts of bf tho the farm and home kitchen and and finally it will give him the power to conserve human energy and direct it into such profitable channels channels that many of the perplexing problems which are before american people will find a solution in the operations of the work with the way to show the nature of the industrial work which has been conducted thru the schools during the rast past year during the summer season practically ail the boys in the various contests such as aa potatoes sugar beets onions poultry etc were visited from one to three times in these visits we have often como come in contact with the fathers of the boys boyi and have discussed with them uie the various problems pertaining to their farm work and important questions have come up as 0 o better A of of performing their farm operations A number of the boys boya ah n the various projects followed their word work up quite carefully throughout the season and submitted a rep report ot the samo same to the supervisor of agriculture at the close of the years I 1 work during the spring summer and tall fall forty public canning demonstrations where held at which there were in at people and at these demonstrations 2961 quarts of fruit vegetable and meat products were successfully canned in addition to these demonstrations tour four of our girls were sent from froin the county to the state fair where they gave daly daily demonstrations tor for ten days in tue the canning of these products this work was done for the benefit ot of the afie public at the request ot of the extension division of the utah agricultural Colle college gk the girls were very successful with the demonstration of this work and much praise came to us from the public thru their efforts the girls who gave these demonstration 1 at the fair were eva ward of willard A vice berg af pf of brigham veoma holmgren of bear river city and irene wolling of fl fielding elding much emphasis has been placed on his branch of our vork and the common people have acome very much interested in it they readily importance in giving practical training to the girl which enables her to utilize the he often waste products of the home and farm garden and interests her in projects at home it reduces materially the high cosi cost of living and makes for greater home efficiency in every way following is a of prize winning boys in fit the sugar beet contest in box elder county tor for 1915 thru the courtesy and cooperation of the utah idaho sugar co at garland we were able the present temse boys with the indicated cash prizes much praise Is due the officials of the sugar company tor ter the interest they have displayed with the boys man 3 other boys have accomplished noteworthy work but space will not permit of their individual mention in this report the following are the winners in the
