Show PROPOSING AN TO section 2 article 10 of the Cons titu alon relating to education public school system maintenance be it enacted by the legislature ot the state of utah section 1 that the following prop maltlon to amend the constitution ot the state of utah is hereby submitted to the qualified electors of the bbate of utah for their approval or digap namely that section 2 article 10 of the constitution of the state of utah be amended to read as follows the public school system shall in elude kindergarten schools common schools consisting of primary and grammar grades high schools an as ri cultural college a university and such other schools as the legislature may establish the common schools ahall be free the other departments of the system shall be supported as provided by law provided that high schoola may be maintained tree in all cities of the farst and second class now constituting school districts and in euch other cities and districts as may be designated by the legislature but where the proportion of school monies apportioned or accruing to any city or district shall not be sufficient to main tain all the free schools in such city or district the high schools shall be sup ported by local taxation provided that when any cities or districts shall establish high schools the legislature may authorize the use of state school funds to assist in supporting such choals said funds being apportioned to the cities or districts concerned by the state board of education section 2 the secretary of state I 1 hereby ordered to cause this alon to be published in at least one newspaper in every county of the state where a newspaper Is published for two months immediately preceding the next general election section 3 this proposition shall be to the electors of th state at the next general election for their approval or disapproval all official ballots used at such election shall have printed or written thereon the words for the amendment to section 2 ar tide 10 of the constitution and against the amendment to bertlon 2 article 10 of the constitution to bother with such ing such amendment as may be pro vided by law said ballots shall be re calved and said votes shall be taken counted canvassed and the returns thereon be made in the same manner and in all respects as Is provided by law in the case of the election of the state officers section 4 this amendment it adopted at said election shall take et feet and be in force from and after the first day of january A D 1917 state of utah office of the secretary of state I 1 charles secretary of state of the state of utah do hereby certify that the foregoing Is a full true and correct copy of a resolution proposing an amendment to section 2 article 10 of the constitution of the state of utah relating to edu aaion public school estem maintenance passed at the sixth regular session of the legislature of this state in testimony whereof I 1 have here unto set my hand and affixed the great seal of the state of at salt lake city utah this day of august A D 1906 seal S secretary of state |
