My st hat ba en a roe notes Haut bear him er out, day I re de as every able My fished for these marvelous flat fellows, Charley hooked and landed from 2 to 3 fish. . I knew a man in Australia who longed to catch:a man eating Shark on a fishing outfit. The Sydney Harbor is alive with these Sharks and many a crime has been charged up against them. Bailey, tried for four years to land one of the demons. In that time he hooked into 27 big fellows, but something always went hay-wire. It was either a broken hook, a frilled out line, or a kinked leader. Being a man of some means an determined to succeed, he sent to England and had made -a special heavy line with a breaking test of 100 pounds dead weight, 2000 feet long. (Note Zane Grey’s heavy tackle, I believe consists of 4000 feet of 39 stran line testing 78 pounds dead weight when dry, with 500 feet of heavy corded line for backing) Bailey rigged a short, stout hickory rod with a steel center, and fashioned a reel from a bicycle coaster brake affair. The outfit was crude, compared to our modern reels and poles, but it was considered unbreakable by Bailey. One Saturday afternoon he went forth in his small power launch to get his shark. Using 5 pounds of putrid beef for bait, he hooked into the father of all sharks, a mile from. Circular Quay and fought the shark seventeen hours. Of course that was an all night affair but he stayed by the guns, and about 8 o’clock Sunday morning, after being towed out to sea twelve miles, he got the shark along side and killed the demon with a carbine. Then, his boat sprung a leak, and had it not been that an incoming steamer sighted him in distress he would have lost his life. His shark weighed better than 2000 pounds, but he at last had the carcass he wanted to have mounted, and was content. So, if we really knew all the facts of how men thirst and hunger for adventure, and- to what extent they go to gain their desires in angling pleasure, it would take volumes in the telling. It is a strange desease— this fishing habit, and when once inoculated, the serum never dies out. Therefore, if you crave to hook and land a record fish, about the only advise I can give you is to keep at it from year to year, and who knows | but some of these days you'll have the big’n hanging above the fire place in reality, and not a moving picture. —Personal ._..-...-.0...- Ss 10.0 Edna Thompson Meecham—Com. 20 rds N of SW cor.
