Show genesis. They have denigrated our passionate concerns, which do not hold the problems of the Wasatch Front in preeminence. And they continue to treat the membership of southern Utah as residents of some "Balkan" hinterland. , I am sick of wasting time and energy on an organization ( i.e. the Utah Chapter of the Sierra Club ) that is more concerned with political infighting and petty, insider power games, than it is with dealing with environmental issues. In my experience, this retro chapter seems to be slightly to the left of the Young Republicans, and about as environmentally motivated as the characters on "Beverly Hills 90210." It has been made obvious by the Utah Chapter’s behavior that the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (GUWA) is the primary place that concerned environmental activists in Utah should expend their energy if they wish to promote the environmental welfare of Utah’s "Balkans." With the Glen Canyon Institute’s leadership in regard to this fundamental issue, and with the Glen Canyon Action Network’s fresh approach to this battlefield, it would be ridiculous for me to waste anymore precious time, energy or money in the black Don’t Be fooled by Utah politicians and their latest “wilderless” proposals RALLY FOR REDROCK WILDERNESS! 11:00am Saturday, April Fool’s Day April 1, 2000 Steps of the : Utah State Capitol Building hole of the Utah Chapter of the Sierra Club. I haven’t felt so compelled, since that memorable evening at the Frostop in Bountiful, . Utah in 1968, when I left the remnants of my draft card in a buddy’s ashtray, but as of now, membership card #41421567 has been reduced to a film of carbon atoms. Please be so kind as to do something appropriately deconstructive your records of my former membership. : Sincerely, Jose’ Knighton ~ Moab, Utah ° LETTERS TO FEEDBACK Write to The Zephyr at: P.O. Their “agreement” for Utah’s Basin & Range country omits 60% or 1.6 million acres of qualifying wilderness in western and southwestern Utah. Their San Rafael “Not-so-Swell” National Conservation Area proposal designates NO wilderness at all, and leaves the Swell open for ORV abuses. Their aviation proposal re-opens abandoned airstrips in a backdoor manuever that thwarts potential wilderness designation. Join Wasatch Mountain Club, Sierra Club, and the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance for the biggest wilderness rally everin Utah! Community leaders will make special presentations. Fun, games and prizes for the kids. Bring family and friends to demonstrate support for protecting Utah’s remaining wilderness lands! Dear Jim, I’m glad to see you are holding up to fools like Matt Djos and Earth Raper (Dec/Jan)—a new generation of the educated but mentally illiterate. They view the earth as a show, a place to have ‘fun,’ via their easy, lazy motorized conveyances. Moabites, please come to the Salty City. Returning home will remind you why your voice is needed at the Rally. When I hiked 65 miles of the Escalante River last October, alone for 10 days, it wasn’t for ‘fun.’ It was to repair something that becomes ruptured by our vulgar/silly/ mercurial society. Hifing the wilds is deeper than ‘fun’ or ‘recreation.’ It is the path to subtlety, unknown to a majority of noisy, in-your-face Americans. Your ally and supporter. And to Glen Canyon--my lost love.
